All nighters are NOT for studying. All nighters are for finishing papers and projects that are due the next day, and that you should have gotten started on way earlier.

A final viewing of previously organized test materials within 24 hours of a test is the best way to go....90% retention.
All nighters...that's what dating was...Then you showed up for work...and were pretty happy if you could keep your head up for 8 hours....and the smile off your face.

I totally concur with Maceman. I had more all-nighters in my undistinguished collegiate career than I care to mention. All of them were due to finishing up papers, computer program projects, etc. that were started far too late.
Nobody I knew stayed up all night studying. Who wanted to risk falling asleep during the exam? I could see trading a few hours of sleepytime for a cram session, but all night?
