All nighters are NOT for studying. All nighters are for finishing papers and projects that are due the next day, and that you should have gotten started on way earlier.

I totally concur with Maceman. I had more all-nighters in my undistinguished collegiate career than I care to mention. All of them were due to finishing up papers, computer program projects, etc. that were started far too late.

Nobody I knew stayed up all night studying. Who wanted to risk falling asleep during the exam? I could see trading a few hours of sleepytime for a cram session, but all night?

During undergrad, I pulled many all-nighters to complete assignments and projects that were due the next day. During medical school, however, every night was an all nighter it seemed. During my training, we had a saying: “Eat when you can, sleep when you can, and don’t *%@# with the pancreas!”
