Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-Colo.) criticized his fellow GOP presidential hopefuls for pandering to Hispanics and asserted Tuesday that those watching Sundays Spanish-language debate are unlikely to vote.
Tancredo is the only GOP candidate who skipped the Univision debate that was simulcast in Spanish. He blasted his colleagues for appearing, saying the only audience that matters is people who speak English.
If they cant understand the English language, then, of course, they shouldnt be citizens, Tancredo said on Fox News. They shouldnt be voting. And we shouldnt be pandering to them.
The lawmaker raised the question of to whom such a Spanish-language debate is supposed to appeal.
Supposedly, not the people that are going to vote at all, because if you are a citizen in this country, if youre an immigrant who has come here and has become a citizen and therefore [is] eligible to vote, youre supposed to, by law, know and can comprehend the English language, Tancredo said.
He argued that there is no other group that candidates are pandering to in the same way.
We would not usually conduct a debate, in this country, in anything other than English, but were going to do it here because ... there is a selective group that were going to, quote, pander to, he added.
Tancredo also claimed that both Democratic and Republican candidates softened their stance on illegal immigration in the debate. The Colorado Republican has acknowledged that he is a long-shot candidate but has promised to continue to keep the heat on other candidates when it comes to illegal immigration and border security, which are his signature issues.
This would be a major shock and downer to the Dems!
It’s hard to understand why his campaign is so nowhere when his issue obviously has a lot of traction.
The man who loves other countries as much as his own stands on a level with the man who loves other women as much as he loves his own wife.
There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is room here for only 100% Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.

there’s no ‘s’ after issue. That’s why
theres no s after issue. Thats whyI guess that's right.
Giuliani and Mitt are media creations, that is why.
If Tancredo was against illegals and for the fence he would be supporting Hunter who has been on this issue long before Tancredo.
Hunter authored the bill to get the double fence up and across to TX.
Part of Hunter’s dist. is along the Mexican border.
Tancredo does not have the military and national security background that Hunter has, as besides the border issues we are also at war in the Middle East.
I live in San Diego and want DC to finish Hunter’s fence.
BTW Univision is seen in San Diego and through out So Cal.
AMEN!!!
Tom Tancredo is the only man to speak out truthfully and without fear about the abysmal situation in what can be called Illegal alien welfare societies in our nation. Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee are almost as candid. Political correctness has so eviscerated our country with do-gooders and censorship, we are indeed a far lesser nation that when real Americans demanded good manners, clean language, excellent public schools that demanded you learn from teachers who themselves were taught and could teach unafraid of bullies, both parent and child there was no political correctness just fairness and understanding. Responsibility for yourself and your family was uppermost; your community was an important value in your life. Americans were tolerant but did not suffer fools and if you were new to the country, you quickly learned English and assimilated into the American Way, a proud and hard working country. Today? Little of that remains because so many have succumbed to the siren calls of Socialism . The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism, but under the name of liberalism they will adopt every fragment of the socialist program until one day America will be a socialist nation without ever knowing how it happened----

Some in our government admit they are Socialists others dont have a clue.
No wonder this xenophobe never got elected president. Oh wait...
Tancredo also claimed that both Democratic and Republican candidates softened their stance on illegal immigration in the debate.
DUNCAN HUNTER did NOT soften his stance!
Hunter: After that, [the '86 amnesty] 12 million more people came in. If we give an amnesty to this next batch of 12 million people, you will have a third wave of people coming in expecting to catch the third amnesty. You know, this lady behind me represents a lot of things. One is welcoming immigrants to America. The other is the rule of law. We have to establish the rule of law, and
people who are here illegally have to go home.
However, dual nationals owe allegiance to both the United States and the foreign country. They are required to obey the laws of both countries. Either country has the right to enforce its laws, particularly if the person later travels there. Most U.S. citizens, including dual nationals, must use a U.S. passport to enter and leave the United States. Dual nationals may also be required by the foreign country to use its passport to enter and leave that country. Use of the foreign passport does not endanger U.S. citizenship. Most countries permit a person to renounce or otherwise lose citizenship.
The Republicans were in sort of a predicament. If they did not pander to the foreign language network, they would appear to be spurning [Latinos] (and Americans of Latin American descent in general--at least it would open them up to attacks). If they did go, then that would appear to give tacit approval to the widespread use of foreign languages, even in the political process.
At least--for the candidates--it was an Anglophonic(?) affair: they received questions in English (or American) and responded in kind. It would have been somewhat more offensive if they were speaking Spanish.
Appreciated. Generally agree (for those who use Univision as a crutch instead of picking up English, not for those who use it as foreign language practice).
“Tancredo also claimed that both Democratic and Republican candidates softened their stance on illegal immigration in the debate.”
This is what bothers me about Tancredo. He also said he would not run if there was a candidate strong on the borders. Well, he’s wrong on both counts.
Duncan Hunter put the same message out he has had for decades.
” “ HUNTER: Listen, when I was when I came back from Vietnam, I was a practicing lawyer in the barrio. I was the only lawyer there, and I never turned away a family that came in and needed help. But I told them a couple of things. One thing is, you have to be here legally, because the first thing youve got to learn in this country is the rule of law. And the second thing is, you have to make sure that your kids learn English, because that is the American opportunity.
Now, in 1983, we gave an amnesty, and when we gave that amnesty, 3 million people came in who were allowed to stay in who were here illegally. We said at that point, no more, and were not going to let anybody else come in.
HUNTER: After that, 12 million more people came in. If we give an amnesty to this next batch of 12 million people, you will have a third wave of people coming in expecting to catch the third amnesty.
You know, this lady behind me represents a lot of things. One is welcoming immigrants to America. The other is the rule of law. We have to establish the rule of law, and people who are here illegally have to go home.”
Tell it to T.R.
Too late.
Good point.
