The Israeli government has bluntly rejected the conclusion of the US National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), released on Monday, that Iran currently has no nuclear weapons programs. The NIE report directly contradicts previous Israeli claims that Tehran represents an imminent nuclear threat to Israel and the world. While government ministers continue to call publicly for greater diplomatic efforts, there are obvious signs that a discussion is underway in Israeli political and military circles about possible air strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities...
“If Israel does this they need to be told that they stand alone. They cant be allowed to suck the US into a world war with the whole of the middle east. I can understand why they would want to do this, but this should be between them and Iran......not us.”
You still think that this is only about Israel? How naive: we are INCREDIBLY vulnerable to an EMP strike - see the site below.

ping - Go, Israel, we may or may not have your back :(
We may well have to do just that if Israel & Iran go at eachother. Iran will probably incite violence in the Shia sections of Iraq as part of their response. We may be forced to enter Iran in a similar manner that we entered Cambodia in the latter stages of Vietnam -- ie. to rip up the logistic network supporting the insurgency. That's the kind of thing you can't do by airpower alone.
Ask yourself this. What would we do if Syria attacked Lebanon? How about if Iran attacked Syria or Syria attacked Iran. How about if Turkey was attacked by Iran? Would it commit us to a world war? Hell no! But it sure would if Israel was attacked. Why?
And their alternative is what?
Wait for Iran to get nuclear weapons married to ballistic capability and *then* fight?
I don't think so.
Believe it or not, there really are such things as 'good guys' and 'bad guys'.
I know that some people really can't grasp that concept but there are people who can.
Their “alternative” is to do what they deem necessary. The same as we should do, but realize what can happen. Understand that they may bring more down on them from the rest of the middle east than they are willing to cope with. Are they capable of standing on their own if they start a major war over there? I doubt it but they did do it against Egypt so maybe they could do it again....who knows. But I don’t want to see this country get caught up in a world war because they want to take out Iran.
my guess is the clintons and the dem party brought this new NIE to bear with pressure on leftover cronies to try and keep GWB from moving on Iran and leaving them with the responsibility of getting out of a potential new front should they win the WH.
If you can’t recognize the difference between good and evil, then consider the consequences of a nuclear attack on Israel, a country with at least 200 nuclear weapons and the means to deliver them.
It’s an end of the world scenario, especially since Russia and China are backing Iran.
Not something any sane person would want to see happen.
If Syria attacks Lebanon, should we intervene? As a matter of fact, yes, although the stakes are not as great.
If Iran attacks Syria? Never happen. They are pals.
Personally, I would take the word of MOSSAD over the NIE any day of the week. It they think there is still an imminent threat then we would be stupid to not pay attention to that.
What you are proposing is that we “should” be the worlds police. I say no to this idea. Russia and China will not back Iran if it means the “end of the world scenario”. They have to much at stake. What I am saying is that the US cannot control everything that goes on in the middle east and we shouldn’t even attempt it. For one thing, we will never control the muslims over there and I don’t want to control them. That is their region of the world, not ours. If it comes over here, you dam right I would stand up to them but we cannot and should not, be the protectors of parts of the world where they won’t stand up for themselves. Good and evil? Yeah I understand what you are saying.......but send your son or daughter over there to fight for someone that won’t stand up for themselves and could care less if they die. I totally support our troops and I support this country in what’s it’s trying to do but not if it’s going to mean getting into a world war because another country has taken 60 years to do nothing to defend themselves......regardless of what the world community says.
Iran will be pacified, whether you like it or not.
Do you stop loving and supporting the US because the Government screws up on numerous issues (most notably border security and soverignity)? Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t say that you (or any other American) should stand behind Israel as they should stand behind their own country, the United States, but my point is that because of bad and even dangerous administrations we should just tell them to screw off.
The day will come soon, when the cowardly Kadima sell-out Government of Olmert is being replaced by an Zionist Likud Administration. The momentum is rising against Olmert.
The sell-out of Judea and Samaria is NOT a inevitable thing.
Typo correction: we should not just tell them to screw off.
They may be militant Islamic fundamentalists, but they are not nuts. The would be committing national suicide if they overtly attacked us. Why would they give us the pretext to attack them?
Because they ARE nuts. They will use their terrorist proxies to attack US targets in the Middle East. They are already semi-overtly attacking us in Iraq by their Qods Terrorist Forces. They are simply begging for a war.
