A few days after Thanksgiving, I asked Mike Huckabee what had surprised him about voters over the past six months of campaigning. "The intensity of the immigration issue," he said immediately, and then added, "I honestly don't know why it's gotten so hot." Huckabee gets points for candor: most of the presidential candidates I've spoken with in recent months feel the same way but aren't about to say so. It is difficult to spend a day on the trail and not see the anger explode.
This is especially true in the Republican Party. John McCain, the sponsor of immigration-reform legislation, has been a target. During a recent town-hall meeting in Hopkinton, N.H., a heavily muscled young man with closely cropped hair began to shout about "open borders" as the issue "that will destroy this country ... You can't imagine the amount of anger your average European Christian American feels about the multicultural tower of babble." He raised the possibility of "civil war." McCain usually turns warrior when confronted with such blatant racism, but sensing the heat in the room, he held his fire this time, calmly saying "I will do everything in my power to secure our borders ... But on the larger issue you raise, I believe that people who have come here [legally] from other countries ... are our greatest strength."

Joe Klein and Bush have a lot in common. They think anyone who opposes illegal immigration is a racist.
Someone check the legal status of Joe Klein’s Nanny, maid and grounds keepers!
Hunter is the best candidate on Immigration.

Why the smart money is on Duncan Hunter

Hunters criticism of Thompson & Romney over this issue is well aimed. We need someone in the white house who isnt a johnny-come-lately on this issue.

Time to start a new party called “The American Party” which will TAP into our roots. If our guys don’t know why immigration is so hot they are not our guys, what a bummer, the country is truly lost, unless a third party comes along we are doomed, plain and simple. If you believe any thing else, like a republican in shining armor is going to show up some day you are truly living a fantasy.
He doesn't know? What does he mean he doesn't know? How can he not know? Is he that out of touch?
What an idiot. He can tell a good joke, but he's utterly clueless on anything of import.
Go away Mike, the ADULT candidates have important things to discuss.
Why would any Republican answer a Joe Klein question?
Since when the Hell was Mexico a “race?”
Hispanic is a culture and loving one’s own culture and holding it above all others is NOT racism, period.
There can be no fifty-fifty Americanism in this country. There is room here for only 100% Americanism, only for those who are Americans and nothing else.
The man who loves other countries as much as his own stands on a level with the man who loves other women as much as he loves his own wife.
And to Hell with the author and all like him.
Hunter is the best candidate on damn near every issue, not just immigration. And since I don’t want to see America turned into a turd world carbon copy, I guess that makes me a racist too.
So, as I predicted, in the PC version of America, it's racist to resist invasion.
As long as the invaders are non-white.
I guess that means it's OK to repulse a Russian or Swedish invasion, just not Chinese, Venezuelan, Arab or African or apparently White Men from Spain (commonly known as "hispanics").
Got that everyone? Welcome to the new insanity.
Guess we should just tell the Army to stand down when the People's Liberation Army starts offloading in Long Beach Harbor.
The huckster to a T.
I have nothing bad to say about Hunter’s positions, but the truth is he has not run a good campaign.
Running a good campaign requires fund raising and managing a big organization. That is what it takes to get attention and traction. That is the definition of a good campaign. He has not done that.
We still have stone age brains and it takes a great deal of perspective to see the issues clearly and forcefully. Intuitively, I think the politicians did sense danger ever since President Reagan signed off on a 3 million amnesty bill. This with all the hesitating verbiage of both parties held this issue at bay.
It began to really come apart when the Mexican, both citizens and non-citizens, made a massive protest in LA. What I, and most noted, was the absence of the American and the plethora of Mexican flags. The brain stems of millions responded in stone age fear and anger. Things have gone downhill since.
The best that current politicians can hope for is to really close the borders and kick the can down the road in respect to what to do with 12-20 million illegals. Of course, the amygdalas FR posters will now claim the wisdom, ability and necessity of kicking them all out--sooner rather than later. Thus proving the impossibility of any real compromise or action.
Another Arkansas jerk.
If the Huck gets the GOP nod I would seriously consider looking at a 3rd party for this very reason. I just dont understand why the politiians just dont get it.
There are dozens of reasons I won't vote for Huckabee, but this single statement would make it impossible to vote for him. You have to be a moron not to know why Americans are so angry about the issue.
