No surprises here, although most of these cities DO NOT have a large illegal alien population. Their crime problems are strictly homegrown.

I wonder what the party affiliation of the local governance is...oh wait...don’t tell me...

Not one of said cities has a GOP Mayor or GOP majority city council. On the other hand, I know that Brick, NJ (one of the safest cities per the same list) has a Republican Mayor and council (yes, even in Jersey we have GOP-dominated municipalities, unfortunately they are still way outnumbered by Newark, Camden, Woodbridge, Edison, JC, etc.).

The FBI posted a statement on its Web site criticizing such use of its statistics.

"These rough rankings provide no insight into the numerous variables that mold crime in a particular town, city, county, state, or region," the FBI said. "Consequently, they lead to simplistic and/or incomplete analyses that often create misleading perceptions adversely affecting communities and their residents."

Meaning, they might lead people to the obvious conclusion that rather than a "crime" problem, we actually have a "young urban black male" problem?

How do we know how many illegal aliens are committing crimes in a city if the cops don’t check?

Facts, we don’t need no stinking facts.

Probably true in the SW, although the JQ Laws still can't avoid putting homicide and rape into their reports.

I'll put Camden, most of Detroit, and North and West Philly against any barrio/ghetto in the SW anyday of the week. Would scare them back south of the border FWIW.

A friend of mine broke down in a pretty bad area of Baltimore one time and fortunately for her, a cop happened along. It was around 6pm and the sun was going down and the cop told her point blank “You need to get out of here because you will be raped or killed tonight.”

Welcome to America’s inner cities.

Detroit, most dangerous? All I can say is "DUH". Though you wouldn't think it if you listened to the local news....

The rankings "do groundless harm to many communities," said Michael Tonry, president of the American Society of Criminology.

"They also work against a key goal of our society, which is a better understanding of crime-related issues by both scientists and the public," Tonry said.

This guy doesn't live in Detroit.

Was New Orleans exempt from consideration?

Wife and I sailed from Two Harbors, MN to Rouge Steel on a steamship some years back. We planned to fly back to the Twin Cities from Detroit.
Our cab driver showed up at the gate and we noticed he was "wearing" a long Philippine bolo knife strapped to his leg.
"Why the big knife," I asked.
"Cops took my gun permit," was his reply.

I still maintain that New Orleans has always been the worst, but that it’s so uncivilized that it’s impossible to gather accurate statistics. Still, Detroit is one of the very last places I’d ever choose to live.

LOL--When I worked on the border between Dearborn and Detroit during the early 90's, I was the only (white-collar) employee on the AM shift that didn't keep a gun in his vehicle.

At the time, I drove a '83 Delta 88 2-door, and kids used to flash me gang symbols as I passed by, so I was relatively "safe" (meaning that everyone thought I was in a gang).

Most of the people on my dad’s side of the family left Detroit when things began to spiral out of control in the late 50s/early 60s. The last uncle left after the ‘68 riots.
