(Political Animal) MITT AND THE MUSLIMS....Via Democracy Arsenal, here's what Mitt Romney told Mansoor Ijaz recently about the possibility of appointing a Muslim to his cabinet:
"I asked Mr. Romney whether he would consider including qualified Americans of the Islamic faith in his cabinet as advisers on national security matters, given his position that "jihadism" is the principal foreign policy threat facing America today. He answered, '...based on the numbers of American Muslims [as a percentage] in our population, I cannot see that a cabinet position would be justified. But of course, I would imagine that Muslims could serve at lower levels of my administration.'"
Hmmm. I thought Republicans were the ones opposed to identity politics and quotas? Let's just check their party platform and....let's see....aha, here it is: "Finally, because we are opposed to discrimination, we reject preferences, quotas, and set-asides based on skin color, ethnicity, or gender."
Sorry, my mistake. There's no mention of religious discrimination there, so I guess Mitt's on solid ground. Quotas for Muslims are OK.
What's really telling about this is that you can almost see the gears turning in his brain when he came up with this answer. Obviously he had to say "no," because he knows that the Republican base would go nuts over the idea of a Muslim in his cabinet. But he can't just say that, can he? So his Bain-trained analytic mind went searching for a plausible excuse and the first thing that popped out of the wetware was a numerical explanation...

Romney...dude...come on
I've been blogging my head off trying to get people to quit judging you based on your religion...only to have you do it to someone else?

How hard is it to just remember to always say this:
“People will be chosen according to their ability, qualifications and fitness for the job.”
Why would anyone, especially running for a public office, especially running for President, ever say anything else?
Romney. Stupid. Stupid. Romney.
Maybe Mitt can supply his Muslim cabinet members with some magic skivvies????
islam is a death cult, not a religion
but I thought he had the “experience”

This is the perfect example of why Romney should not be our nominee. The thought of him as Commander in Chief is frightening.
I know. And this is the guy who’s always got the scripted answer, so smooth that it should come with writers credits (as one reporter said), and yet he can’t get this oh-so-obvious answer down pat.
It doesn’t matter if you plan to never hire muzzies because you wouldn’t trust them as far as you could throw them. You always SAY that you hire on the basis of ability, qualifications and fitness for the job. C’mon, Romney. Did you miss the sixties?
Oh brother.
based on population...I still can’t get over that. it is weird. Kucinich must’ve met Romney. That’s why he believes in aliens...naaa that would make Kucinich seem rational.
isn’t that supposed to be the other way around?
Mansoor is still an apologist... even if he doesn’t know it.
If you must post it, try this link instead of CBS:
A Muslim belongs in the Cabinet
Muslims are uniquely qualified to help deter Islamist threats.

Sounds like he’s looking at it as a quota situation and being a certain percentage of the population doesn’t qualify anyone for anything. He may want to take a look at Michigan where we’ve tossed affirmative action out.
agreed
he reminds me of those movies where the alien tries to impersonate a human being and doesn’t quite get it...
ah yes
Mebs!
Exactly... that would scream caliphate.
This is the most outrageous thing I’ve seen come out of Romney yet. And that’s saying a lot!
