I agree with G.K Chesterton. Thanksgiving is not about us, its about reverence for God. It is for Jews and America was the only country to institute an annual practice for it. We are so wrapped up in ourselves and our own affairs, we forget the true source of our blessings. With God all things are possible and from Him is true wisdom. I will celebrate that and I hope every one does. In our time, we need to be in the habit of showing gratitude and joy even if we don't always feel like doing so, in all seasons. Enough with doom and gloom. Be happy before God, that you may merit a portion before Him, both in this world and in the next! Happy Thanksgiving!

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus

The week of Thanksgiving I always reflect on the many Blessings I have had from God in my life...

I am thankful to my God and nobody can change my attitude about that even a Scrooge like this jerk

Obviously George Washington was hell-bent on imposing a tyrannical theocracy on this nation and did not understand that no whisper of a mention of God is permitted in America’s public life. /s

[Abraham Lincoln also failed to anticipate the depravity of the ACLU secularizing fanatics]

"Thus out of small beginnings greater things have been produced by His hand that made all things of nothing, and gives being to all things that are; and, AS ONE SMALL CANDLE MAY LIGHT A THOUSAND, S0 THE LIGHT HERE KINDLED HATH SHONE UNTO MANY, yea in some sort to our whole nation; let the glorious name of Jehovah have all the praise!"

Governor William Bradford, in the journal he wrote for his family - that ended up shining like the "one small candle" still lit after almost 400 years - with the journal, originally printed as "The Bradford History" is now titled "Of Plymouth Plantation" still in print...available in Amazon, Plymouth 11, etc -

Also, last year, the History Channel produced the best and most accurate movie on the Pilgrims ever done - and if you never knew or really cared much about them at all, it's still a great adventure story - wonderfully acted by Elizabethan Shakespearean actors, the costuming is FINALLY right - not black and white, and the photography is breathtaking.

Titled "Desperate Crossing" and available through Amazon, it's a classic everyone should have...

And this guy better not mess with my favorite holiday of the year - Gov. Bradford was one of my 7th great-great grandfathers. :o)

To judge from the stores, we go directly from Halloween (which starts in late August) into the Christmas season-Thanksgiving no longer rates much in the way of decorations or displays at all. People talk about a “war on Christmas”, but Thanksgiving is the one which really seems to be under attack-or rather, ignored pretty much entirely.

"When people stop believing in God, they don't believe in nothing – they believe in anything."

My favorite historian, the Brit Paul Johnson says basically the same thing and one of our FReepers has it as a tagline:
"Expel the priest and you don't inaugurate the age of reason, you get the witch doctor."--Paul Johnson
