I received the American Community Survey in the fall of 2006. I found it incredibly intrusive. I did a little investigating and decided I should ignore it. They sent another copy. I ignored that as well. Someone called my home, but I told them that I would not answer the survey. After a couple of calls, they left me alone. I have not heard from them again.
Same here. I called and said I would not fill it out. They kept insisting that by law I had to. They sent a card and another survey which I promptly pitched.
Had one go so far as to come to the house, I was in the yard, told him I was there to mow the yard while the owners were away. LOL
What do I need to do a good job? Names, maiden names, places of birth, address and ages. That is all. Yes, it's cool to find out that one of my grandfather's was a painter in New York, but I can dig up those details on my own. The gov't doesn't need that information.
Yup. I feel as offended by the gov't asking me how much is on my mortgage as I would being asked the same question at a PTA meeting. And the fellow in the article is right: They are the GOVERNMENT. Shouldn't they have most of this information already?
I had the same experience in the late 80s or early 90s. I don’t remember the year.
And on the real Census, the only question I answer is how many people live at this address.
