This morning I left a message with the duty agent at the FBI field office in Seattle. A short time ago, the call was returned.
We discussed the protests in Olympia, WA in which military vehicles have been blocked by protestors. The FBI undoubtedly knows what is happening in Olympia, but I called just to make sure.
The agent was interested in my suggestion about the possibility of a college professor(s) at Evergreen State College encouraging students to block the military vehicles. I made it clear that I have no specific knowledge of that, but it has been hinted on the Internet. Two days ago, I called Media Relations at Evergreen and asked the question. They have not responded as promised.
The duty agent indicated she was interested in hearing a response if it can be shown that a professor was directing the students to perform such illegal acts. She made it clear that, while the protestors had the right to exercise First Amendment rights, the protestors risk a potential felony charge by interfering with the transport of military vehicles.
The FBI is not allowed to comment on any possible involvement with the local police in this matter. She did confirm, however, my supposition that the blocking of military transports is typically something that would be referred by local police to the FBI.
Okay, Washington FReepers, what do you know? If a professor is encouraging his students to violate federal law and commit a felony, that professor needs to be investigated.
Media Relations at Evergreen did say that students don't get extra credit for protesting, as some have claimed. The school has a pass/fail system instead of grades. Why is that not surprising?
NOTE TO LEFTIST MOONBATS WHO WILL BE READING THIS: Yes, you naive nitwits, you certainly have the right to peacefully protest. But you don't have the right to interfere with military transports. May everyone of you misguided fools end up in federal prison for that.

Doug - thanks for pursuing this issue. My point would be that "students don't get overt extra credit for protesting..."
There is no way that anyone can be certain that a subversive professor doesn't have a secret agreement with one or more of these scruffy unwashed students that amounts to a bonus for protest.
After all, this is Evergreen College - the institution that invited cop-killer Mumia Abu-Jamal to speak at graduation.

Actually this is a "riot" not a protest. It should be treated as such by the police and the FBI.

from the NY TIMES: Dan Kimball, chief criminal deputy for the Thurston County Sheriff’s Department, said Thursday, “The people who’ve been protesting have been mostly peaceful and quiet, but it definitely changed this week into some more aggressive civil disobedience.”
A protest leader, Larry Mosqueda, said the demonstrations were intended to call attention to the “illegal and immoral” war in Iraq and the role of the port, which is publicly owned.
“If you raise the stakes, the costs of the war go higher,” said Mr. Mosqueda, a professor of political economy at Evergreen State.

Olympia Port Protest
First off, the Port of Olympia serves all of Thurston County. The fact that 100-200 Evergreen students and staff think they can go down there and block a public right of way, assault police officers, and destroy/vandalize private and public property in the name of “the people” is ridiculous. Thurston County is home to a quarter of a million people. I don’t understand how fewer than 0.1% of our population can declare moral supremacy and act like common criminals all the while claiming to represent our community. Groups on both sides of political spectrum act in this manner, and it is unacceptable in any case.
As far as the protest goes, I keep asking myself:
- How many of those protesters really KNOW someone in Iraq. Was this a compassionate protest about bringing loved ones home or do they just not approve of the president?
- I keep hearing people cursing about “the pigs!” How many of those protesters know a police officer? They’re human beings. They are not a part of the war machine bent on squelching people that speak out. They are men and women with families and feelings and they care. They protect your right to express your opinions and believes. They don’t protect you when you violate the rights of the majority. And they certainly don’t protect you when you vandalize and destroy property. There is no shame in that.
- How many of those protesters are from Thurston County? Do they have the right to march around in the name of the Olympia community after attending classes at Evergreen for a couple months? Go home and try to get away with this.
As an evergreen student, I am disgusted and embarrassed by the actions that took place. These selfish radicals don’t represent the community, but unfortunately they represent me. As long as young adults want to act like children in this community, I will be associated with them as a student or graduate of TESC. What does this mean for us in the future? Are potential employers going to assume I am in favor destroying property and throwing temper tantrums in public? Actions like these make an already weak diploma that much more worthless.
As a side note, there is one last thing that’s been bothering me. It comes from some footage I saw on theolympian.com from Saturday the 10th. The scene is a bunch of young kids with their faces covered throwing dumpsters, garbage cans and rocks into plum street in front of middle aged families while some asshole declares that the “street is now closed”. Ofcourse, it ends up being left to the middle aged folks to clear the roads so they can go home while this complete jackass stands on the curb saying “oh, I’m SO sorry we inconvenienced you for five minutes!” in the most sarcastic tone possible. Was this guy protesting port militarization or local families? Maybe he wanted to make sure that the protest could get as much bad press as possible. I hope he and everyone else involved got pepper sprayed sixty times.

Not knowing that particular port I cannot give accurate dollars and cents, but one could perhaps check with either the GAO, or perhaps the port to come up with the actual costs to the taxpayers of detaining the vessel unloading and, or the dockage, wharfage, fuel, crew, etc. costs per day above and beyond what it should have cost had there been no impediment to the operation.
These idiot protestors are costing the U.S. taxpayers unnecessarily by their nonsensical actions. This vessel as I understand it is bringing equipment back home from Iraq. Stupid to protest, but to protest this event is really stupid.

Your conclusion is correct.
You have to understand that Evergreen is an alternative college. The students work on a contract basis. They do projects (maybe including protesting)and write papers. They have advisers that make recommendations and evaluate their work and that’s how they get a grade. So, there would be no such thing as extra credit.
This is the school that spawned Rachel Corrie.
