SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.
Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.
One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.
"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.
"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.
"Leave Santa alone."
A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.
When Don Imus gets hired as Santa Claus then these nuts can start worrying about “ho ho ho” having dual meaning....
It depends on the neighbourhood. In some neighbourhoods it's the only way to get some play.

Just the fact that they say it’s discretionary gives credence to the “misleading” statement.

Is there any doubt that Santa is a chauvinist? He makes the misses stay home with the elves while he travels and visits the world and he does this every single year. Does Mrs. Santa clause ever get to travel? Does she ever get time off from caring for the eleves? Nooo. And about the compensation. Santa gets cookies and milk everywhere he goes. What does Mrs. get? Nothing, zip, nada.
Many years ago, when I was about 17, I walked into work and greeted my colleagues with “Hi ho,” in my best Kermit the Frog impression (that used to be his traditional greeting; it probably isn’t any more).
One of my coworkers, a young black woman, shot me a hard ook and asked, “What did you call me?” It took a solid second, maybe two, before I realized she was just messing with me. We laughed and got to work.
We all, all of us, need to just get the F over ourselves.
They hijacked “liberal” and “gay”.
