Nearly three years after the highly complex Delta 4-Heavy rocket flew a test launch to demonstrate its capabilities for hauling hefty cargos to space, the giant booster entered service tonight with a fiery blastoff carrying a national security satellite.

We're looking good through SECO2 with a long cost and a final burn of the DCSS RL-10 prior to S/C sep. Yours truly was privledged to see this from the console at CCAFS. The window I was looking out of was shaking as this Heavy lumbered its way off the pad.

How terrible that we see the taxpayer's money being shot off into space when it could better be spent RIGHT HERE
at my house for repair of crumbling infrastructure and to provide relief for the starving children and baby ducks of somewhere or other,
and jobs for dope-smoking human services majors. It's all for the children, you know.

I heard an early morning news report of the launch. They said it had 1.6 million pound payload. That sounds awfully heavy to me, was it really that big, or did they just misspeak as to what was 1.6 million pounds. Whatever it was it was certainly an awe-inspiring launch!
