This advertisement, the first for Fred D. Thompson since he announced his candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination, is to begin running today in Iowa and nationally on the Fox News Channel.
PRODUCER Revolution Media Group.
THE SCRIPT Mr. Thompson says: Ive been a conservative my whole life. I grew up in a little hometown just like this. Started the first Young Republican Club in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.
In eight years in the United States Senate, I fought for tax cuts and for conservative judges. And Im proud to have had a 100 percent pro-life voting record.
Common-sense conservative principles. Free people. Free markets and a government that doesnt tax and regulate us to death, but defends us and protects our borders.
In a country where, if you play by the rules, youve got a fair chance to live the American dream.
My friends, we must remember that our rights come from God and not from government. And if we stick to our basic conservative principles, we will win next November and the United States of America will be better for it.
ON SCREEN In both the 60-second and 30-second versions of the advertisement, Mr. Thompson is shown in a homey diner, shirt collar open but blue blazer buttoned, greeting customers. As he takes a seat at the counter, he begins talking. Images appear on the screen: an old black-and-white photograph of a young Mr. Thompson with Ronald Reagan, Mr. Thompson in the Senate, Mr. Thompson at work in an office. Images from Middle America then roll by older people sitting in lawn chairs and waving American flags, two men at a tractor, children running outside from a Victorian-style house.(continued)

The homies can relate to this...
God bless Fred Thompson, and here’s hoping he is our next president!
“I grew up in a little hometown just like this. Started the first Young Republican Club in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.”
Being southern I literally did not hear someone describe themselves as a Republican (in my presence) until I was almost an adult.

excellent!
Sounds good!
A Fred Thompson mention in the NY Times?????
Next thing you know, they will actually mention his name in the Washington Post.
I like the spots - they’re well done.
I just made another donation to Fred08....did you?
That’s an interesting point that illuminates his remark. Thanks for sharing.
Sounds great! I like it!
It's not only refreshing, it's sensational to hear a Presidential candidate say that right in the face of the old hippies who think they rule in 2007.
Nice ad. Coulda used a few young faces, maybe. The brunette on the porch, the waitress, and maybe the dad and baby in the background. But the couple at the counter, the ladies with the flags, and the farmers with cowboy hats were all seniors. I have to assume that was intentional. I guess they have their reasons.
Yeah that’s what struck me most. Instead of using generic political talk that frankly can come from either party, he unapologetically got right down to his principles. I’d wager they are the same principles of the majority of America.
That is why FRed will be the next POTUS. No other candidate can even come close to that.
Fred is one of the most likeable politicians I have seen in my lifetime, those are very good ads.
Fred is like a junior mint, he can be quite refreshing.
