Isn’t the foreign service in State sort of like the military, you swear an oath and agree to do your duty? I believe it is different than the regular employee unions and idiocy like that. (Who ever heard of unions in government) I think they can resign if they don’t want the assignment, but I believe that is the only option. Not surprising that the State Department has a bunch of liberal wimps who have no since of duty to country.

Actually, they think they are working for the businessmen in that country and the American businessmen who trade with them. If you are an ordinary American tourist, they won’t give you the SOTBs.

Back in the 1980s, the civilians at Ranstein would remain among side the blue-suiters in the bunkers in case balloon went up. Dependents were supposed to be evacuated, but of course all were hostages to fortune. No way that40,000 could be removed in short order.

You think they think they are there to ‘serve’ the US, FRiend?

They are there in an interim position(s) to ‘serve up’ American interests.

If they cared about America, they would quit or commit suicide.

Hi and welcome!

Here is something that might make you feel better about this situation. It’s an original idea and a very good solution to the cowardly diplomat dilemma.

Heard a story that George Shultz called our ambassadors to the White House and asked them which country they represent. Each named the country to which he'd been assigned. Shultz corrected them. He told them they represent the United States to those countries.

No one has been able to clean out the State Department in the last 45 years. It needs to be done and done soon.

To them, a Secretary of State is a temporary employee. They are self-perpetuating and entrenched.

Full of elite, cowardly, un-American whiners. Clean sweep needed.

That's because they view their refusal to go to Iraq not only as in their best material interest, but as a way of thwarting Bush administration policy.

One of them claimed 88% of the America people were opposed to the Iraq war as justification, meaning he thought the permanent government has a right to thwart the elected government whenever it thinks it is popular to do so.

He should have been fired on the spot.

The Bush admin has had 7 years to do so, and here, as in so many other areas, it has failed miserably.

The President simply does not understand that these people are also enemies of the United States.

Not surprising that the State Department has a bunch of liberal wimps who have no sense of duty to country.

If they aren't a liberal wimp with no sense of duty to the country, chances are good that they will be screened out during the hiring process. And guess who is doing most of the screening out?

No POTUS has ever cleaned out the Department of State since Truman & in a lesser degree, Eisenhower. It takes a concerted, focused effort.

If a POTUS sets out to do it at the behest of large numbers of pissed off Americans, then maybe it will get done. Congress also needs to step up.

True or just legend, that's a great story.
The time I heard it, I loved the punch-line:
"NO, point out YOUR country."
(as Schulz and the State Dept pencil-necked geek stood at the
large globe)

The FSOs signed up for the wine and cheese parties in Brussels and Barcelona, primarily to talke with other elites from those civilized countries.

The man and those FSOs that agree with him are out and out cowards and should be called and humiliated as such.

why should Proddy and his colleagues be forced to go to Iraq to support a mission they don't believe in...?

Don't these people swear an oath of allegiance to the United States?

Too bad Condi hasn’t taken advantage of the right media appearance to
comment on those FSOs, as in expressing disappointment at finding so
many FSOs that do not subscribe to a patriot sentiment:

“And so, my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you;
ask what you can do for your country.”

The interview as portrayed on national tv and as received over here in Iraq is a disgrace to American’s as a whole and reflects the sentiments of a coward, someone who should not be working for the USG’s DoS or anyone else in the federal govt. It is people like Jack Croddy who embolden our enemies, give them pause to think that they can wear us down if not outright defeat us. I am here, I have been in the field and the green zone, and incoming mortars and rockets are just a fact of life. He knew when he took that job at DoS that there was a very real possibility of him being posted to a less-than-cushy embassy - it just goes with the territory. The military is like the sweepers in a parade, the DoS is like the horses in the parade. We always have to clean it up when diplomacy fails. Jack Croddy is not even capable of putting in the street, he has just let it go in his trousers, or, in his case, pants. . . . .as Will Rogers once said: “Diplomats are just as essential in starting a war as soldiers are in finishing it.”

Whether the war is considered “right” or “wrong” based on personal beliefs, once committed, it is our duty to come together as a nation and be united. America is basically a good and just country, but all the good and just Americans are not doing anything but the very few of us who are. MLK said: “If a man hasn’t discovered something that he will die for, he isn’t fit to live.” It would appear to me, that there are a lot of Americans like this, Jack Croddy, U.S. Department of State is one among many.

All that is essential for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. — Edmund Burke. What is Jack Croddy doing? What is the rest of America doing?

Jack Croddy and anyone of his ilk in the State Department should be fired. American’s need to get hold of themselves and think about where this nation is going and what we stand for.

Lots of guys over at State talk like this.

There are a few courageous types around, on the front lines as FSOs-what not--but by and large, they are the exception, not the rule, in my book.

Yes, indeed. I liked <<邓肯亨特 >>'s idea in that regard.

(Yes, that is "Duncan Hunter" in Chinese above.)

They do follow him and others running for that office very closely.

Some of the Mainland China comments on Hunter out on the Web in Chinese are not that flattering, and for good reason.

Whereas in Beijing, Hilary is the greatest thing since chipped beef it seems.

Maybe Beijing is where Jack Cruddy should be sent, to toughen him up for his posting to Pyongyang.
