We just had a relatively large earthquake in the San Jose area, lasting more than 20 seconds.

Everyone’s ok here, it was the kids’ first real shaker. They’re kinda scared now.

I hope all you FReepers in my former state are all OK! 20 seconds of shaking is a long time. I lived in Fremont CA during Loma Prieta, and I thought the shaking was never going to stop. I was terrified.

Don’t you just hate it when terra firma ain’t so ‘firma’?

You people can have all the quakes for my money. At least I can ‘see’ a Hurricane coming.

The only way you’d ever get me in California is if God himself picked me up and took me there. :)

Posted on the other thread, it shook the heck out of the NUMMI plant, but I called my wife in San Ramon and she didn’t feel a thing.

NUMMI plant was nearly on top of this one, could feel the building rolling a bit after the first big jolt.

Felt it in Alameda, near Oakland. Pretty good shake, no damage.

Thanks for the map.

I’d rather have a bunch of 5’s than one 9.8.

Let of some tension, San Andreas. Here, have a beer.

Yay. Just spent 10 minutes explaining plate tectonics to a 4 and 5 year old.

Fun ride down here in San Jose! :)

Felt it extremely stong in South San Francisco. Lots of violent shaking and creaking noises from the house. Stuff rattling around and swaying. Felt like a 6-something.

looks like a lot of phone disruptions w/cell phones,, probably had a few towers shook pretty good..

it was a good jolt here, we’re probably no more than 7 or 8 miles from epicentre. had a steady rolling / sliding motion for a good 15-20 seconds , very unsettling to say the least

Actually, I'm not. Had a big bad day at work today. They moved my cube and nothing worked in the new locations, then they gave me a new code behaviour that'll be tough to follow and maintain one's sanity. So, no, we're not all all right, dude!
