I have no doubts that there is serious potential for Terrorist related fires, particularly with the Santa Anna winds.
It's not rocket science or hard to imagine and I wrote and warned of such possibilities by enemies of this nation back in 2001 and 2002 in the Dragon's Fury Series.

I was very suspicious about this from the start. My main suspects would be leftists of some sort: Islamofacists or eco-terrorits. But it could be ordinary pyros.

Indeed you did. Good series, well written.

Speculation that terrorists could cause large scale forest fires in the West date back at least to the 1960s, when authorities feared that the Weathermen and similar radical leftist groups would do so. In the initial stages of World War II, the Japanese sent high altitude balloons with incendiary devices aboard to land in California and ignite forest fires. However, nothing came of it, as the balloons did not reach the coast for the most part. Since al Qaeda has ties to Russian/Soviet intelligence, as did the New Left groups in the 1960s, it is possible that they may even have received some of the old plans from their FSB contacts, updated to reflect current topography and conditions.
Of course, it could just be the result of natural causes, given the extraordinary weather conditions Southern California has experienced recently.

They are NOT Santa Ana winds. They ARE Santana winds, meaning Devil winds.

Destroy resources, discourage the general morale of the population, then come in for the big attack"~sarc~

...aided and abetted by idiotic environmentalists who won’t let us clear out the dead underbrush and trees. That’s just more fuel to make the fires worse.

I hear ya!
I seem to recall several news article a few years back that indicated information found on one or several captured terrorist’s computers indicated setting fires and draining resources were part of their plans.
They did it in Greece (which, strangely enough, was covered very little), so why wouldn’t they do it here?
