Two of the teens enmeshed in the nationally known "Jena Six" case helped present the most anticipated award during Black Entertainment Television's Hip Hop Awards show broadcast Thursday night.
Carwin Jones and Bryant Purvis were introduced by Katt Williams, a comedian and the awards show's host, as two of the students involved in a case of "systematic racism."
"By no means are we condoning a six-on-one beat-down," Williams said during his introduction of the teens, one of whom is still facing attempted murder charges in connection with the attack on white student Justin Barker. "... But the injustice perpetrated on these young men is straight criminal."
As Jones and Purvis walked onto the stage at the Atlanta Civic Center, where the awards show was filmed on Saturday, they were greeted by a standing ovation.
"They don't look so tough, do they?" Williams joked as the teens stepped up to the podium.
Both Jones and Purvis thanked a number of people, including family, friends, the "Hip-Hop Nation" and the thousands who came to their small hometown to rally behind their case.
Purvis said the Sept. 20 rally proved "our generation can unite and rally around a cause."
The teens assisted Williams in presenting the Video of the Year honor to Kanye West for "Stronger." Purvis handed the award to West, who in turn shook hands with both teens.

The inability to forgive and move on to life and to live in resentment is at works here and always will be until something changes. Sad their children will pay the price generation after generation. I will continue to pray that the black community is relieved of its bondage of self from resentment and lack of forgiveness and thus relieved of the bondage of evil.

I don't mean the "Just Us" fake, race-baiting reverends like Al and Jesse,
Where are the black ministers?
The last time I saw them on TV, they were marching on "Chuck's Gun Shop," in Riverdale, IL, protesting a legal business selling a legal product.
When we see heart-broken black women on the news, sobbing because their young child was just killed in a drive-by shooting, we all sympathize. But, why don't we see the religious leaders offering support and speaking out against the insane violence that occurs in their community on a daily basis?
It seems to me that the black ministers have given up. They leave their primary responsibility to a few brave souls like Bill Cosby, Juan Williams, Shelby Steele and Alvin Poussaint to tell it like it is and take the heat from the MSM.
That's just not right. The black church has to be the instrument of change.
Two Men Are Arrested in Attack on Staten IslandThe men, identified by the police as Daniel Avissato, 24, and Mark Vincent Maleto, 21, were arrested on charges including assault as a hate crime, gang assault, aggravated harassment as a hate crime and criminal possession of a weapon — which the police said was a sneaker, because the victim was kicked. Two other men were being questioned by the Police Department’s hate crimes unit in connection with the attack, as the victim was released from the hospital after having surgery on his jaw. A fifth man was being sought by the police.
The victim, Skylar McCormick, who is black, said he was attacked in the Mariner’s Harbor section of Staten Island by five white men who yelled racial slurs at him, the police said. The police said that Mr. McCormick was punched by Mr. Avissato and knocked to the ground; once on the ground, Mr. McCormick was kicked by the attackers, who the police say included Mr. Maleto.
Yesterday, with an ice pack tied to his jaw, Mr. McCormick, 20, appeared next to his parents and the Rev. Al Sharpton at a news conference in Staten Island University Medical Center. “This is no casual crime,” said Mr. Sharpton, who was asked to appear by the victim’s parents, the Rev. Walter Taylor and his wife, Jessica Taylor. “This is certainly something that is threatening to him as a person, could have permanent damage to him and certainly is hate-based, with racial language used.”

Poor Bill Cosby tried back in the 1980's to nail that concept within, "The Cosby Show" in several episodes. Look how they throw him under the bus anytime he's called blacks to the carpet.
