Won't be long before somebody proposes changing the name of the town from Washington to Trantor.

OK, how many people do you think recognized that reference and could figure out what you meant by it?  It's a great line, by the way.

Dubai Al-Sharqiyah Television in Arabic -- Independent, private news and entertainment channel focusing on Iraq, run by Sa'd al-Bazzaz, publisher of the Arabic-language daily Al-Zaman)

Have you heard anything about this or are you familiar with the source? If true this is another bit of evidence, which is starting to accumulate, that we may actually look back a year from now and realize that we've basically won this thing in Iraq.

Al-Sharq is a large Arab holding company with their fingers in many enterprises. I have no knowledge in regards to their reliability as a media source. However, there has been a strong response in the Arab world against any partition. A weak, federal Iraq leaves the door open for Iranian influence. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States are petrified of that event. The sane Arab states are moving very close to USA for protection now.

Re CITGO ads: I guess they lost their Cialis account, whose ads used to play every ten minutes on FoxNews.

I heard Steffi interview Mitch McConnell after Speaker Pelosi, so your wish was half-granted.

During their roundtable while talking about the comments of Dan Bartlett on the current Republican presidential candidates, George Will mentioned people having ties to previous administrations!! and used Sandy Burger as an example. Hello, George! You were talking to the prime mover of the Clinton War Room!!!! I guess George Will does not possess the gene for irony.

David Horowitz did an excellent piece on Neo-Communism in FrontPage Magazine back in 2003.

I've started to see more references to MoveOn and their ilk as "NewCommies."  Folks are starting to catch on.

I believe that the great lesson of the Twenty-First Century, as yet unlearned, will be that the utopian dream of compromise and co-existance with these virulent, anti-life, anti-human and anti-God belief systems is simply not possible. Unfortunately, the cost will be horrific.

Yes, a more talented observer of history than I am could really make the case for many parallels between our world now and the western world of the early 20th Century. After the Gay (Eighteen) Nineties came the ‘workers’ movements in the 19 Oughts, followed by destructive war in the Teens, followed by half of the world under the yoke of totalitarianism for more than half of the 20th century.

Slightly off topic but a subject I find fascinating. When I was in MA and NE about 10 years ago I was fascinated to see so many town names that were familiar. Such as Plymouth, Portsmouth, Manchester, Birmingham etc.

I suppose that Sussex county is taken from our county of Sussex where I was born. Do you have any other Sussex or English town names in your Sussex County? For example Chichester, Brighton, Lewes, Hastings etc.

George Will was commenting on the NYTimes headline “Gore Vindicated” and he said that if asked the NYTimes would not see any editorial comment in that headline.

Snugs, while they had changed over to metric in the 70’s, when I was stationed in Australia in the early 80’s they still used the term stone for weight.

Oh, goody, Krauthammer just comes right out and says Jimmy Carter was a disgrace.

Thank you, Charles.

My only quibble is the use of the past tense:

Oh, goody, Krauthammer just comes right out and says Jimmy Carter is a disgrace.

Does anyone think that if high-ranking diplomats were being protected by goons they wouldn’t have passed the word back to the powers in the State Dept that contracted Blackwater, to tell them to improve the situation.

Well will be dishing dinner shortly. Roast lamb, Yorkshire Pudding, beans and parsnips.

Lamb in the tin foil and Yorkshire in jug just about to go into the oven

Again choice of sweet, desserts, afters, seconds or whatever you call it.

I had a lot of milk left over from last week so before it goes off I thought I had better use it up so I made a custard tart.

Still more milk left over so I decided to do a mock trifle instead of egg custard I made up a whipped strawberry dessert which used up another pint of milk.

Same in Britain whilst most things are sold by the kg and litre we still refer to certain things such as weight by stones and ozs and milk and beer by the pint but a full measure pint not a short measure likes yours :O).

Some of my ancestors named their property Almodington which is a tiny place near Brighton (UK). The county they lived in is Somerset, Maryland.
