I am not sure that people in countries having socialized medicine understand it either.

The truth of what you say is abundantly demonstrated on Free Republic almost every day.

I am not sure that experience with socialized medicine in other countries will be a good predictor of the experience here.

Right againOur high expectations of quality coupled with our vastly more culturally diverse population will insure a cataclysmic bankruptcy of the system in record time.

I believe we may be seeing the effect of the threat of socialized health care already. Recently a young caller to the Boortz show said that he considered going to medical school. He changed his mind and selected engineering when a professor encouraged him to check out the intentions of the democrat candidates.

Why bust your tail for the next decade only to risk becoming a slave to the state?

I had better make a amendment for myself.

One day too late, I ran into a man at the public library. He is on disability. He tells me he has been put into the system as a care giver. Remarkable, for what he does is to change sheets and diapers of patients. Some with Alzheimers. Thus he also cares for his parents likewise in their 80's.

He tells me there is a program to use people on welfare and disability. It is called ONTARIO WORKS. I tread lightly though and did not ask it it was compulsory.

I felt pretty humble in knowing that such tasks would "kill" me. Still, this does not apply to the United Kingdom. Just like to update on the fact that something is being done in Ontario.

Ministry of Community and Social Services - Programs, Services and Supports

The Ontario Works Program provides income and employment assistance for people who are in temporary financial need.

It sounds like a regular job placement center, and I'm glad that it benefited your acquaintance.

Being familiar with hospital work, I can tell you that it can indeed be hard, but if a person has a kind heart and is working there because he or she enjoys helping people, it can be the most gratifying and meaningful work in the world. If someone is there only because they want to make money, it will be a disappointment unless you're a Cardiologist, a nurse or something similar..
