Researcher: Humans will wed robots

MAASTRICHT, Netherlands, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- The University of Maastricht in the Netherlands is awarding a doctorate to a researcher who wrote a paper on marriages between humans and robots.

David Levy, a British artificial intelligence researcher at the college, wrote in his thesis, "Intimate Relationships with Artificial Partners," that trends in robotics and shifting attitudes on marriage are likely to result in sophisticated robots that will eventually be seen as suitable marriage partners.

Levy's conclusion was based on about 450 publications in the fields of psychology, sexology, sociology, robotics, materials science, artificial intelligence, gender studies and computer-human interaction.

The thesis examines human attitudes toward affection, love and sexuality and concluded that the findings are just as applicable to human interaction with robots of the future as they are to the relationships between humans of today.

Hey, why not? I watched a show on cable last week where these guys had life size, real looking rubber dolls with all the necessary equipment. They’ll probably find a way to marry them too.

Dunno why not. They’re marrying inflatable dolls. Robots are a step up.

I’m not over Jessica Rabbit yet.

This probably won't help.

Glad somebody remembered “Blade Runner”. Sean Young was hot in it, in a beautiful way, as she was in “Stripes” and “No Exit.”

She signed and sent me two photos (One I bought showing her in her mid-20’s, early 30’s with long hair) and the other a newer photo.

She also sent a nice note along with them.

She is the kind of robot guys should marry, if necessary.

Do you remember “Cherry 2000”, another sci-fi movie with Melanie Griffith, about cybergs?

However, I think the researcher has been watching “Blade Runner” and “I, Robot”, too many times. His hydraulic fluid has sprung a leak.

Obligatory “Cherry 2000” movie observation.

It is going to be interesting as robots become more and more android and human.

That one twilight zone episod apparently was precient.

Shades of Isaac Asimov? Didn’t he toss this idea around in his robot based science fiction books back in the 50s?

When a robot has the looks of Marilyn Monroe, the brains of Albert Einstein, the sense of humor of, I don’t know, Lucille Ball (?), AND the ability to bring in the big bucks, why marry a real woman? ‘Course, women will have the same amazing options in robotic mates. Why restrict marriage to one robot? You could marry ten robots. Who would care? It’ll be the end of marriage and the end of the human race.

Might as well let them turn you into a cyborg while you’re at it; humans will be obsolete.

Sounds like a nightmare to me!

Just one problem...what’s the point of marriage if there’s no hope of procreation? It’s like pathetic lonely women that get cats or pomeranians instead of children. What’s the point?
