Workers at Oregon's Driver and Motor Vehicle Services have turned in nearly 200 people to police for suspicious documentation, an effort that overwhelmingly singled out Latinos.
This summer, the DMV changed a long-standing policy: Rather than simply refuse service to customers suspected of presenting phony or altered documents to obtain licenses or identification, employees began to alert police.
From June through August, 140 people were turned in to police -- roughly 94 percent of them with Latino names, according to DMV records obtained by The Oregonian.
Oregon State Police and police agencies in Portland, Beaverton and Albany recieved the most referrals. Of those 61 cases, 13 people have been convicted of crimes, and a dozen others are pending prosecution, according to police agencies surveyed by the newspaper. Three others were cited but not charged with a crime.
For the remaining 33 cases, some were arrested but no charges were filed or their charges were later dismissed; some were never arrested or charged; or authorities could not find a case file for the person.
In one case, an Oregon City woman was arrested and charged with a felony only to find later that her identification was legitimate.
State officials say the new approach is a work in progress.

The "singled out" comment is from the lead paragraph to the story. That's why I posted it. Your point is the same as mine. It would seem that these folks are singling themselves out.
The writer's bias shows in the headline and the lead paragraph.

An effort that overwhelmingly singled out criminals.
Meanwhile millions of illegal Irishmen go unimpeded!
Typical Oregonian (which we refer to as "The Fish Wrapper" around here) claptrap....
Of course they mean to infer that Latinos are "unfairly" targetted and affected. Of course the reality means that Latinos are the ones who are mostly the ones using fake documents.
But the very Lib Oregonian dare not point THAT out...

The "singled out Latinos" comment in the article is nothing but race baiting. Its like a challenge to point out the obvious while they wait like a coiled snake to scream bigot and shut down the possibility of disagreement with their policies.
"Progressives" aspire to fix all the worlds problems, yet still vehemently condemn simple honesty about some matters. The same tired old drivel always drips from their mouths to infect racial wounds anew.

The bias in the lede is even more egregious as the report continues. After reporter Esmeralda Bermudez notes that an Oregon City woman was charged with a felony but later exonerated, her attorney was quoted as saying “Perhaps a large portion of people that are offending with bogus documents happen to be Latinos...”
why do they ASSUME the name is hispanic?
are they going by the one drop of hispanic blood rule?
What a crock, what about children of mixed ethnic background?
Of course the REAL QUESTION is “are these documents really fakes?”
