I don’t like to tell other countries how to handle their internal affairs, so I’ll just politely suggest that if Sarko gives them a “whiff of the grape” ... I won’t accuse him of human rights violations.

The grape should ideally be delivered by gunnery capable of spewing forth ~~streams~~ of "crowd-control discipline" with a single activation the firing mechanism.

(I do not share your admirably modest reluctance "to tell other countries how to handle their internal affairs." LOL)

Here's the modern 105 and 120 mm equivalents.

M1040 105mm cannister.

I'd think the 120mm main gun of the French LeClerec Main Battle tank could fire the M1028 round.

A bit more likely to be employed against rioting suburban Youts are the AMX-10RC with TML 105 turret, which fires all standard NATO 105mm ammunition, including presumably the M1040 cannister round.
