Clinton unveils mandatory health care insurance plan

DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) -- Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton announced a $110 billion health care reform plan Monday that would require all Americans to have health insurance.

"People are dying because they couldn't get the care they needed when they were sick," says Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Clinton unveiled her "American Health Choices Plan," during a high-profile speech at a hospital in the key campaign state of Iowa, surrounded by supporters, American flags and campaign banners.

"Here in America people are dying because they couldn't get the care they needed when they were sick.

"I'm here today because I believe it is long past time that this nation had an answer," Clinton said. "I believe America is ready for change.

"It's time to provide quality affordable health care for every American," Clinton said. "And I intend to be the president who accomplishes that goal finally for our country."

Under the plan, federal subsidies would be provided for those who are not able to afford insurance, and large businesses would be expected to provide or help pay for their employees' insurance.

Clinton said her plan would not require small businesses to take part, but will offer tax credits to encourage them to do so.

About 46.6 million people in the United States were without health care insurance in 2005, including 8.3 million children, according to a U.S. Census Bureau report released last year.

--snip--

The Edwards proposal would cut off health care for the president, Congress and all political appointees in mid 2009, if a universal health care plan for all Americans has not been passed by then.

"People are dying because they couldn't get the care they needed when they were sick," says Sen. Hillary Clinton.

The late Sam Walton got the finest health care money could buy when he got sick.

He still died.

‘federal subsidies would be provided’

...and that money would be raised by increased taxes.

"About 46.6 million people in the United States were without health care insurance in 2005"

12 Million are Illegal Immigrants.

Millions more are old, wealthy and self-insured.

Millions more are young, healthy, and counting on Daddy to pay any extraordinary bills that actually show up.

Who is left?

Very few. I'd guess more like 10M are uninsured, and want insurance. That's 3% of the population, folks.

What should the government do for these people?

Get the heck out of the way, reduce government regulation on healthcare so that costs go down, and more of these people can get the insurance the government has priced them out of.

Question for Hillarycare: What Government Bureaucracy is so well run that you want it running your doctor's office and local hospital?

I have to be forced to sign up for it, whether I need it or not. Thanks, Hillary!

". . .$110 billion health care reform plan Monday that would require all Americans to have health insurance . . .

"[Mrs.] Clinton unveiled her "American Health Choices Plan"

I get it. It's mandatory, but it's a choice.

Kind of like abortion. A "choice" for the doc and the mother. Mandatory for the baby. In this case, the American people are the baby. Mrs. Clinton wants to be the doctor.

Buy your own damn health insurance people.

But, that would necessitate putting the potato chips down, getting off the couch & getting a job.

Sorry, I just don't have it in me.

Don’t forget, a dear Canadian friend on the Clinton’s [when diagnosed recently with breast cancer] has come to the U.S. for treatment.

Why would Hillary offer less to her own countrymen?

Its Orwellian. You supposedly have choices but you can't say NO! Some choice.

I disagree. I think Americans love big government. They vote for it every election. Those that don't want it are referred to as kooks.
