Assignment asks parents to renounce U.S. citizenship

A Northern California junior high school history teacher is telling angry parents the letter to President Bush he sent home with their children for them to sign may have said they wanted to renounce their U.S. citizenship, but he never was going to mail them and he only meant for them "to start a discussion."

According to administrators at Bidwell Junior High School in Chico, Calif., the letter Mike Brooks sent home with his eighth-grade students was part of his lesson plan on the Declaration of Independence.

Brooks told the Chico Enterprise Record the letter was his attempt to put America's founding document into current language and he intended for his students to take it home for their parents to review and discuss with their children.

The letter, sent without an explanantion or disclaimer, concluded by saying, "After careful consideration of the facts of our current situation, I have decided to announce to everyone that I am no longer a citizen of the United States, but a free and independent member of the global community."

Principal Joanne Parsley said Brooks was counting on the students to explain to their parents the letter was part of the lesson plan.

All the sudden, I feel like eating an avacado in a redwood hot tub surrounded by crystals and dream catchers.

The twit is a moron and so is his principal for trying to defend the indefensible. His explanation is not even coherent - the letter (and class discussion related by the student) is obviously NOT about the American Revolution of 1776-83, it is a leftist twit trying to tell students and parents that they should be so aroused by propaganda about Gitmo and elecronic surveillance that they should want to renounce their US citizenship TODAY. He is propagandizing 13 years olds with his moronic talking points from DailyKosFreaks and MoveOn.scum

Principal Joanne Parsley said Brooks was counting on the students to explain to their parents the letter was part of the lesson plan. "The point was, I wanted to ask parents if they would sign such a letter if conditions that existed prior to the Revolution were happening now," Brooks said. "I just wanted to start a discussion."

From the article Defeat at Any Price in the September 24, 2007 issue of The Weekly Standard:

Appeasement, pacifism, globalism: Those are the Big Three principles of the Democratic left.

and

Globalism and Euro-envy are explicit, sometimes, in Democratic pronouncements--about the sanctity of the United Nations, the importance of global conferences and "multilateralism" (except in cases like North Korea, where the president already is moving multilaterally), the superiority of the Canadian or German health care system, and so forth. The Democrats are not unpatriotic, but their patriotism is directed at a large abstract entity called The International Community or even (aping Bronze Age paganism) the Earth, not at America.

and

The Democrats don't conceal their globalist ideas...

This "teacher" is merely doing what he was trained in college to do: indoctrinate the next generation to be one-worlders, not Americans.

He, like public school "teachers" in general, is just a foot soldier in the legions of Marx, Lenin, Mao, Chavez, Hillary, Moveon.org, Soros, etc.

He's simply doing his job.

I understand that some parents signed the letter and returned it. Even more frightening.

but a free and independent member of the global community."

There are alot of people, enlightened teachers included, that actually believe this is a better solution to US citizenship.

Their elitist ignorance, however, doesnt allow them the awareness that America is the best global provider for people who wish to be free and independent. Today's global community is too busy working against American ideals in order to establish a global mind set, which just may turn out to be fascist and/or radical Muslim in nature.

Had I been one of those parents, well...you can imagine the letter I’d have replied with involving his “one world” and shoving it where the sun don’t shine.

Angry parents?
If I received one of these letters, I’m afraid that I’d have to go to the school with my buddies, grab this anti-American creep, dip him in warm tar and then dust him with a feather pillow.

In what cocamamie world are middle school teachers regarded as elites? Most Americans have little regard for teachers, as I learned from experience when I left the field. In the job market teaching experience is worth nothing.

Since he is no longer a US citizen, then he is working in this country illegaly. She should be fined, jailed and deported after he has served his sentence.

I think they should be held to it. They are not citizens. They cannot vote. They have no claim on any US programs provided by citizens’ taxes for citizens.

I want to see these fools leave the country and I want them tailed by media as they attempt to enter any country in the world without a valid passport.

They used to teach Edward Everett Hale’s short story: The Man Without A Country back when I was in junior high school. It should be brought back to the curriculum. This teacher obviously never read it.

There is no legal entity called The World Global Community and being a *citizen* of the *world* means nothing.

Okay, so “innocent” is the new euphemism for “Islamofascist terrorist.” What do we now call truly innocent people so that we do not confuse the two, or are we to round up all innocent people and Islamofascist terrorists and treat them similarly? How ineffective! (among other problems)

And what did this “teacher” substitute for the “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights” clause of the Declaration of Independence? Gosh! Why not teach the actual content of the document and the Enlightenment philosophy that inspired it? Or has that become unconstitutional within the realm of the Ninth Circus because it mentions the “Creator” who “endowed” “all men” with “certain inalienable rights” including “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” when the Ninth Circus knows that all rights flow from its proclamations?

And because our rights come from Almighty God Himself, not the government, what then is the role of the Government? The Declaration tells us: “To secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.” That’s right, folks: the government exists to secure your certain inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. In the view of (barely) most Americans, the Islamofascist terrorists extinguished the lives of thousands of their dearest compatriots on 11 September 2001, and our government exists to ensure that such a tragedy never again befalls our country and to secure the right to life for the survivors.

Although the Creator endowed each man, woman, and child with the sacred right to life, a person may forfeit that right. Making war against the United States of America, the enemy threatens the right of Americans to their lives and therefore forfeits his own rights until he agrees to cease hostilities. The criminal likewise denies a citizen the exercise of an inalienable right that the government exists to secure and therefore forfeits his or her own rights. Without this implicit understanding, criminals would roam our country freely unencumbered from further denying the security of the right to life to our fellow citizens; any effectual government therefore would secure the rights of the surviving citizens from the criminal. This sophisticated logic apparently never penetrated the skulls of some petty potentates on the bench and in the classroom.
