A former Augusta church choir director and teacher's aide admitted Wednesday what he has denied for years - that he is a child molester. For taking responsibility for what he did, Carlton Johnson, 46, was sentenced to eight years in prison followed by seven years' probation by Superior Court Judge J. Carlisle Overstreet.
Johnson was back in court because the Georgia Court of Appeals reversed his conviction in January. The court ruled that Johnson was unfairly convicted in early 2003 because Judge Overstreet forced his defense attorney to try the case after the attorney told the judge he wasn't prepared. Johnson's eight-year sentence was shorter than the 10-year prison term he received in January 2003 for child molestation. At that sentencing, Johnson said he believed he had been a help to the victim's family.
Wednesday, he apologized to the victim and his parents. In March 2002, Johnson was a choir director at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, which the 14-year-old victim attended with his family. After his sister complained to their parents that Johnson propositioned her, the boy told his parents that Johnson had committed a sex act on him.
In March 1994, Johnson was working as a teacher's aide when a parent told sheriff's investigators that Johnson had fondled a 6-year-old boy, according to reports in The Augusta Chronicle. Johnson was tried and acquitted of sexual battery in that case.

Former pastor rejects plea offer
Former Pastor William Procanick, 53, rejected a plea offer Friday in Oneida County Court in front of Judge Michael L. Dwyer.
Procanick is charged with first-degree sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.
Defense attorney George Aney would not say what the plea offer was.
Procanick is due back in court Sept. 18.
The former pastor of Resurrection Assembly of God in Clinton is accused of touching the buttocks of a 7-year-old girl while trying to get her to fall asleep at his residence earlier this year, according to Oneida County Court documents.

But then they have an agenda.
That’s funny, I grew up in a Southern Baptist Church. Young new pastor came in, messed with plenty young girls in the choir... none older than 12.
Everyone knew it and ended after building up to a church blowout on a Sunday to run him out after a year and a half. Married, son and daughter was my age and a friend. By the grace of God my grandparents had a restaurant and I worked too hard to ever visit anyone... wouldn’t have been allowed anyway.

I think it’s more of an control and mental issue with the person that drives them to the sex. Now that things are no longer hidden behind closed doors and more victims speak out (as evidenced by the lengths of time the secrets have been kept by many whether incest inside the home or anything else), we find out a lot of molesters were themselves molested at an young age as well... but couldn’t, didn’t or wouldn’t speak out. What do you do with them?
They always show 1 in 4 girls have been molested at a young age in studies (not everyone goes to church period... so we’re definitely talking homes/schools as well), I don’t think i’ve ever seen solid stats for boys.
Here in NYC, the number of molestations, abuse, rape by illegal aliens are ridiculous... and they let them out several times (keep an eye on the three Guatemalans in Jersey, watch what happens). Go to one of the sites to check your neighborhood for sexual offenders and see what you find.
You’d be shocked at the stats re: teachers and children as well. Then again what we tout in our society doesn’t help either.
