It is time to test how long the testers hold up to waterboarding.

You may be right, But I’m betting this was just a dry run. They may even have stored some semtex in the bag for a time and then removed it before the flight to see how sensitive the sniffer was.

Considering the source, the utter lack of corroboration could mean that it didn’t actually happen.

...the Middle Eastern passengers were taken from the checkpoint to the Orlando Police Station at the airport by police and FBI officials. Ultimately, they were released by federal officials well after flight 1824 had left the airport.

Un-flippin' believable.

ME passengers, carrying bomb components, verified hits for SEMTEX, forged credentials... "Aww, let 'em go. These folks are fine."

Is it a requirement to score >70 on the Moron scale to be in federal law enforcement???

Usually those doing the probing don’t even know who those are that will really execute the mission. You can waterboard them all you want, if they were part of a probing effort they won’t know much and were recruited solely for that purpose.

This makes me wonder how many time this is done and we do not hear about it, or how many time this is done and our wonderful TSA does not even catch them?

Who made that decision? Is there a list of unreputable sources that are banned? Just wondering. I occasionally check NIN and CFP to see what their saying. They seem to have stories like this that go unreported elsewhere. I often wonder whats the deal...are they making them up or sensationalizing....would appreciate your thoughts.

This was more of test...to see if anything would be noticed. The trick is....you don’t aim for one group getting on one airline...you want several groups getting on several flights. So you are hunting for the least capable TSA airport. My guess is that they will now turn around and hunt for airports like Jackson, Miss or Huntsville, Al....hoping to find less capable guys.

You are correct...one day...they will find the right airport, and within a week...have 40 people there to get on a couple of flights within a 60-minute block. The only thing they may have guessed wrong about...no one onboard is going to sit and play dummy. The minute you stand to announce your intentions...20 passengers are going to take you down to the ground and probably terminate you before you realize what hit you. We all learned lessons.

I’m ready to ban all smart ass Muslims playing games with strange shit in their bags, from scheduled commercial flights..

There are simply too many of these bastards who are too crazy to allow onto flights with “normal” folks...

Being PC doesn’t require one to willingly commit suicide.

The clowns on this particular flight - with the greasy necks and arms — strange items resembling bombs in their bags, should go onto the NO FLY list for their lifetime..

The silly bastards want to play their cute games - then let them walk, swim or stay the hell home in their turd world environment..

Even more disconcerting, TSA and security officials observed that two of the Middle Eastern men intended for the flight had smeared Vaseline on their arms and neck areas – a common tactic among hand-to-hand fighters who want the advantage in the event someone tries to grab them or put them in a headlock. Covered by the greasy agent, they are better able to extricate themselves during close-quarters, hand-to-hand fighting.

Always request a blanket. You can wrap an unruly hijacker in it (drape the whole then over his head/body mass or wrap it around him like a rope). Greased arms won't help him and neither will holding a knife.

Don’t even need to request one. They are in the overhead compartments with the pillows.

I don’t think that they pose a security risk for the hijackers to use them to take over a plane but an attacker could be subdued.

I’m sure McGuyver knows other things that might work in the environment.

That why this is more likely a diversion to make DHS think airline hijackings are still being planned. Thereby redirecting resources away from the search for dirty bombs and border enforcement issues. They have to know that their chances of successfully pulling off another suicide hijacking are tiny.

This may be a bit too optimistic, but I think that we're catching them all. Why? Because if they had gotten through more than a couple of times at any given airport, they would have put a bomb on a plane by now. It seems to me that they're checking each hub to see if the local security procedures are lax, and when they find a place where they can get a bomb on board they will send several bombs through that airport.

I agree with you in principle (moronic and bloated federal law enforcement/intel is part of the reason we got 9/11) but I susopect there’s a reason these dry runners have been let go no matter what the location. I think it’s because the government has a way of keeping tabs on them and they are trying to track them back to their recruiter and/or control officer. Even being able to get a wiretap on them could lead to buckets of good intel.

I think you guys are missing something. I believe there's a reason they're trying to get a bomb on board, and I think the final operation will look like the plan at Heathrow.

I might be wrong, but I think if they find an airport they can penetrate, they will send one person on each plane. That assumes they find a way to get a complete simulated bomb through with one person. The one person gets on a plane and detonates the bomb. If I were them I'd do it during climbout...though there's little risk of discovery at any point in the flight, why risk it? Put the bomb in the overhead on a short timer, or put it under the seat, pull it out partway into climbout and push the trigger.

Consider what they could do if they took those 40 people pepsionice was talking about and put them each on a different flight...all planning to detonate at a certain time. Some detonate during climbout, others during cruise, others during descent. All of a sudden, 40 airliners disappear.

Now, what if they have to bring it aboard in pieces, as the Heathrow bombers planned? Well, then you do have teams...but the object would be to not look like they were traveling together, and only one member of the team would have to know how to make the bomb. One bomb-maker and a handful of females who could bring stuff into the bathroom in their purses. The females could even wear Western dress...if the 9/11 hijackers spent their last night on Earth bozing and getting lapdances, why quibble over whether a martyrette is going to wear the hijab on her way to paradise?

If such a team needs 5 people, pepsionice's hypothetical 40 means 8 dead planes...imagine if they're all cross-continental flights on a heavy traffic day. We could be looking at 2,400 casualties. If they use the one-person-one-bomb 40 plane approach at any but the largest airports, some of the jets would have to be regionals, but we'd still be looking at 5-6,000 dead...even more if most of the detonations happen on climbout or descent and the debris falls on populated areas.

A hijacked plane makes a better weapon, but the hijacker can be stopped by a dogpile, and a hijacked plane will almost certainly be shot down if the hijackers allow the Air Force any time at all to find them. But if the bomb can be gotten aboard at all it probably won't be stopped.
