Volkswagen of America plans to announce today that it will move its headquarters to Herndon, as part of a new corporate strategy to for revamping its sagging auto business.

The company said it would bring 400 jobs to the region and invest more than $100 million to set up operations in a new office building in Woodland Park near Washington Dulles International Airport. The move is part of a corporate restructuring that would eliminate 400 positions, leaving 600 employees and contractors in Auburn Hills, Mich., outside Detroit.

I love the cars - It's the adversarial attitude of their CS department that sucks.

I swear to Pete, these executives spend more time moving their headquarters around than they do getting involved in their communities and improving their products.

Another thing they are good at is changing the name of the company.

“It doesn’t help that their cars are MADE IN MEXICO”

So is the Ford Fusion and Dodge Neon (to name two of many).

If you want an American car, buy a Camry.

The failures of VWoA (and yes, I own two of those cars) are not gonna be solved by moving to VA. They have failed to compete w/ Honda and Toyota, or even GM and Ford. Aside from the Beetle, their styling is at best tolerated by buyers.

Worse yet, their best sales prospect, the 50 mph diesel models, are absent from the American market at the very time when they should be as hot, or hotter, than the hybrid vehicles.

Prior to the New Beetle’s introduction, it was common knowledge that VWoA was looking at leaving the American market. Sad to say, that’s about where they are today.

Not to be a smart*ss, but what does get involved in their community mean? Isn’t providing jobs doing enough? Where ever they decide to locate a plant or an HQ, their responsibility is to their stockholders.

Actually it does. If it weren’t for their Mexican plant, we’d have a couple thousand more illegals in the US looking for work.

When Jen was elected the first time, it did not speak very well of the MIGOP. When she was elected the second time, it spoke volumes.

Just what Michigan needs right now--another 'slap in the face'.

Will the last one out, please turn out the lights!
