The growing disparity between public schools, however, led to a controversial decision in 1974 to bus children of different races to schools outside their neighborhoods. Angered by the breakup of communities, many white parents enrolled their children in parochial schools instead or pulled up stakes and moved away from the city, leaving a disproportionately poor population of children of color. Ironically, then, busing created a less-equal situation than the one it was intended to replace.
And boy, those new Lawrence high school polos look dorky.
Your post reminds me of the old adage: “when you mix dirty water with clean water, you get dirty water.”
True, busing was pretty much a disaster for the Boston schools.
Yet conditions in the ghetto schools was terrible long before the 1970’s.Read Jonathan Kozol,Death at an Early Age.
I can also tell you from personal experience in the New Orleans Public Schools that segregated schools were nightmarish places to work.Made me appreciate integration, warts and all.
One of the problems with liberalism is that its adherents almost never learn. When liberal policies fail, liberals simply announce that they didn’t go far enough and push the policy even more.
Good. MA and its socialism deserves to die a trickling, slow death . .

Nope. The states are the “laboratories of democracy” in a Federalist system. If a state is hurt by the stupidity of its policies it serves as an example for the rest of the country of what not to do. It is valuable precisely because there are consequences to misguided public policy.
“Cleveland and Boston are two good examples of the unintended consequences of judicial activism.”
Cleveland and Boston are two good examples of the consequences of putting Democrats in power.
What is your explanation for the demographics of Prince George's county?
The only problem is, liberals look at Massachusetts and California as success stories. They want to make the rest of the country just like them. Rather than being a cautionary example, these places are seen as prototypes for utopia by a lot of people in positions of power and influence.
As another Freeper noted, Orwell’s 1984 was a cautionary tale, but liberals see it as a blueprint.

That was my line for years! Someone done stole it or thoughten the same thang. Obviously a person of good sense in either case.
One big downside to this trend of big city families moving to suburbs in other states is that many of these people are liberals. You’re already starting to see the effects of this exodus in places like Arizona and Colorada, which have lots of California refugees. They bring their politics with them, which in turn recreates the same problems they were running from in the first place. Only now they’re making their new neighbors miserable too.
Right! They believe everything is fine in MA. All of their wachky programs have merely been administered poorly.
You make a criticism of anything there, and you get THAT answer.
I have always countered with this one: “Please tell me where, anywhere in this world, a society taxed its way to prosperity?” Silence.
Good observation.
I’ve also noticed that if you are from Boston, the rules are pretty flexible. If you aren’t, even the smallest rule can be brought to bear on you.
I had friends graduate from top post-grad institutions and decide to move back to the Boston area.
It’s almost like they’re all Southies at heart.
In Los Angeles they tried to buss my kid. All the white people moved out into the burbs. This was in the early 80’s and Los Angeles has gotten worse. Now I have a 5 year old daughter. I know even the private schools are all Mexican. I am willing to relocate just so she can go to a school where she is not a minority. Use the link below to check out schools, you can see the schools grade and there is a tab for percentage of kids learning English.
To blame what is happening on the policies of local politicians is nonsense. They are just reacting to what is happening.
That is total BS, It has everything to do with local politicians. I dont know about your area, but in my area, Los Angeles, they dont check your I.D. when voting. Since 1980 where I live has turned from white to brown. Back in the 70s they were closing down schools because they didnt need them, since the year 2000 there is something like 30 new schools in the works. There is no denying that the majority of students are illegal aliens, only the number is disputed. Most of these kids live in small houses with multiple families and few of their parents speak English or have more than a 3rd grade education. 60 percent of the children are born to single mothers. The mothers are on welfare and work under the table. While the mother is working there is nobody to watch over the kids and they end up joining gangs as a surrogate family. The police and the schools are not allowed to ask anybody if they are here legally, city policy. The city helps them pay rent in apartment buildings that become breeding grounds for illegals and gangs, city policy. Americans have been forced out of Los Angeles and have moved inland into the deserts. Manufacturing Businesses moved out. Nobody wants to live in a desert where the temperatures have wide temperature swings between day and night. People dont want to drive 2 or 3 hours to work a day, but they do just to allow their kids to go to decent schools. The reason the housing situation is so bad is because there are as many as 6 families in one house, a normal family can not compete with this.
Where are the poll watchers? If the election officials in charge of the polling stations aren't complying with the rules, the party poll watchers can report it. I have served as a Rep poll watcher.

And who is responsible for preventing illegal aliens from entering the country in the first place? LA city officials? We are taking in 1.2 million LEGAL immigrants a year with 60% coming from Latin America. One in every three residents of California is Hispanic and one in four is foreign-born. Big cities like LA are magnets to legals and illegals. And the Hispanic birthrate is twice the general population's.

LA is a lost cause. However, I don't hold the local politicians the most responsible. They are reacting to and coping with an invasion of illegals across our border and with a failed immigration policy. Many communities are organizing grassroots organizations to fight back [I belong to one], but the courts, state officials, and the federal government have not been cooperative. In fact, the courts and groups like La Raza and the ACLU have been fighting us every step of the way. And so has the Dem party.
Ha ha, towards what are they “progressing” ??? I think the founding fathers had it just about right.
Amen!
Besides, all that has moved to the Antelope Valley (ie the desert) are white trash, black trash, and Latino trash that have been pushed out of LA by the high cost of living.
