Police Chief Valerie Harris confirmed Friday afternoon that a Placer High art teacher hid a suspected gunman in his classroom during Monday's full-campus lockdown.
"Our investigation did reveal that Evangelista was in Mr. Covich's classroom during the lockdown," Harris said Friday. "Information came to our attention after students were being released, and has in fact been a very concerning fact of the incident. Further investigation is being conducted and at this time I need to limit my response on the issue."
Ceramics teacher Tobin Covich allegedly hid Francisco Evangelista in his classroom Monday during the lockdown. Officers arrested Evangelista late Thursday afternoon on suspicion of firearm possession while on the Placer High campus Monday.
"At this point I'm not making any statement," Covich said Friday after being contacted at his home.
Harris said it's possible Covich could face repercussions for his alleged actions.
"Minimum, he could be exposed to action by his employer for failure to follow procedure," she said. "There's a chance, based on facts, that he could have exposure to criminal prosecution."
See Sunday's Journal for additional information.
Possibility of rreprcussions?!?!?
He darn well better be in the pokey if he pulled that kind of caper here in KS! Endangering the lives of the students...whose side is this “teacher” on anyway?
A ceramic teacher??????????????????
Good grief! Is there any sanity left?
Why can’t a schoolroom be a sanctuary? Seems as if churches, businesses and whole cities can be sanctuaries for those who break the law. Maybe all of that ought to change.
Ping.
Good lord...that tells you why he did it, he's and idiot.
