FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida, August 30, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Pro-family advocates may soon have a chance to see where Republican candidates stand on American values in September's upcoming "Values Voter Presidential Debate."
The debate is scheduled for Monday, September 17th at 7:30 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Seven out of nine Republican candidates have indicated they plan to participate in the event, however their names have not yet been released to the general public.
Questions will be fielded to participating candidates from among 40 pro-family leaders include such notables as Phyllis Schlafly, President of Eagle Forum, Don Wildmon, Chairman of the American Family Association, Paul Weyrich, President of the Free Congress Foundation, Mat Staver, Chairman of Liberty Counsel, Bobby Schindler of Terri's Fight, Janet Folger, President of Faith2Action, Rick Scarborough, President of Vision America, Judge Roy Moore and many others.
The debate intends to give "Values Voters" a means to ask the Republican candidates hard-hitting questions on life and family. Pro-family advocates can send their own suggested questions for the appearing candidates by e-mailing Faith2Action at f2ainfo@f2a.org. The debate will also conduct a straw poll among registered viewers of the debate, and be used to develop a video voter guide/DVD for distribution.
The debate will be broadcast live on Sky Angel, the VCY and AFA radio networks, and streamed live on pro-family websites such as http://www.ValuesVoterDebate.com and http://www.AFA.net.
The American Family Association has asked pro-family supporters to contact the four leading Republican candidates and encourage them to participate in the debate: Rudy Giuliani, 212-835-9449; Mitt Romney, 857-288-6400; John McCain, 703-418-2008; Fred Thompson, 615-390-994.
A Democratic version of the debate would have been held the following week, except that all candidates declined the invitation.
"Even with two-thirds (19 million) of the evangelical Christian eligible voters sitting on the bench in the last presidential election, we, values voters, still made up the largest voting block in the country," stated Janet Folger, President of Faith2Action, and member of the Values Voter Debate Committee.
"All of the candidates who place our values (and our votes) as a priority will be at this historic event," continued Folger. Folger cited the results of the last presidential election, where the National Election Pool exit poll indicated that the evangelical vote constituted 36 percent of President Bush's voters - up 10 percent from 2000 playing a crucial role in his narrow 2004 victory.

Good.
I prefer debates on a wide variety of issues. Concentrating on a central issue is a great way to get lots of canned answers.
At least he won’t have to answer any questions from the lesbian crowd.
This sounds great. As a value’s voter, I’ll be glad to hear it. I hope Hunter is participating. I would like to hear his answers. I hope he can gain some support here.
I sent a question regarding the growing pornography industry.
I forgot to comment on none of the Dems coming. I wonder why they wouldn’t come to a values deba...Oh, that’s right. People with no values can’t talk about values.
Do you think he will show?

So much for Howard (The Duck) Dean and Barack Osama-Yo-Mama-Obama’s claim that the DEMOCRATIC PARTY is paying attention to the “faith community”! LOL; show’s their hypocricy, and that they really don’t want anything to do with Christianity, they just want to infiltrate the Christian political movement to destroy it@!
Also you’r right Giliani, Romney and a few others ARE going to get be called out on their inconsistencies in THIS Debate!! Way to go (beats YOUtube/CNN debates..and MSNBC with I won’t dual Zell Miller Matthews..).
“Rooty Toot is going to get slaughtered in this debate.”
He sure would... That’s why he’s almost certain not to be one of the “7 out of 9” attending. He has nothing to gain from appearing, and everything to lose.
Rudy and Romney are not participating, for obvious reasons.
