Coldest August Day in NYC in Almost a Century [Were is Algore.......]

Coldest August Day in NYC in Almost a Century Photo of Noel Sheppard. By Noel Sheppard | August 21, 2007 - 18:40 ET

All you global warming skeptics, deniers, and court jesters better stow your potables, combustibles, and sharp objects safely from proximity of electronic equipment, because it was absolutely a frigid August day in the Big Apple Tuesday.

HOW COLD WAS IT?

Well, as reported by WCBSTV.com, this is the coldest August day in New York City in almost a century (h/t NBer Dave in Texas, emphasis added throughout):

The city along with the rest of the tri-state region is feeling the chilly effect of a cold front sweeping through the region, accompanied by cool rain showers.

Tuesday's high temperature in Central Park was just 59 degrees. The normal high for today is 82 degrees. The normal low is 67.

Hmmm. 23 degrees below normal. Think that will be featured on any of the network evening news broadcasts tonight? Or this:

"This unusual blast of cold air smashed our previous record for the coldest high temperature on August 21, which is 64 degrees, set back in 1999," CBS 2 meteorologist Jason Cali told wcbstv.com.

In fact, the 59-degree high tied the record for the coldest high temperature ever for the month of August in New York City, when it reached just 59 degrees in 1911.

Think New Yorkers would love to see a little global warming right now?

Surely I jest.

Meanwhile, 103 in El Paso, TX. I could go for some global cooling right about now.

I don’t buy that humans are causing global warming but this article is silly. Anyone who has taken freshman stat could tear huge holes in it. One day, week, month, or year being colder or hotter than normal doesn’t prove anything. Long term trends show warming. That is almost impossible to dispute. The questions that aren’t answered are whether it is within the bounds of natural cycles and what if any contribution humans have to it.

Just when this prediction thing is all planned out into the infinite future, temperatures on earth going up by exponential increments, then reality has to rear its ugly head....

Look up the word “homeostasis”. This describes the state of the vast number of interlinked elements and the complex relationship of one to another.

Too much CO2 in the atmosphere? What are the critical levels? I would expect it is WAY above twice, or three tims or four times the current level.

But the fact is, CO2 will never again reach that level while there are green growing plants capturing the very small concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere, and converting them into carbohydrates and free oxygen.

In 2000 Al Gore was talking about “risky schemes”. Trying to artificially reduce the CO2 concentration in our atmosphere is just another “risky scheme”.

If we clean the pond, the lilies shall die. We NEED CO2 in our atmosphere.

Isn’t the point that we had all these stories in the NYC area that the warm December was proof positive of Global Warming?

Algore has done a Jimmy Carter and refuses to debate anyone (including Pee Wee Herman) about global warming.

He may soon have to go back into hiding until he can come up with his next scheme (or gets his next set of plans from the Acme Company).

Yes, I think the point is to point out stupidity with stupidity (like Rush does "absurdity with absurdity").

PW wanted to debate Algore? That would have been a hoot.

OK, obviously a refresher is needed:

If it’s hotter than normal, thats global warming.
If it’s colder than normal, thats because of global warming and its cousin “climate change”.
If a storm forms anywhere on the planet, thats because of global warming because storms never happened before global warming.
If there is more or less precipication this year than last, that is because of global warming.

That should about do it. Any questions?

You all just don’t understand. Here’s the revised version of the global warming mantra. “If it’s hot outside it’s because of (manmade) global warming. Oh, it’s cold? Oh yeah, that’s global warming too.”

For those of you that can’t decide whether we’re burning up our planet or freezing it, you can use “Climate Change”. This will cover your butt no matter what the temp is.
So, you see, no matter what the temp is or the trend is, the cause is ALWAYS the fault of humans.

Don’t forget that whether you believe in cooling or warming, use the phrase, “this is undeniable”. Use of this phrase will guarantee that your view is unassailable and paint any who disagree with you as uninformed morons. It works for AlGore and it can work for you!

What really gets in my craw is that 20 years ago they didn't’t name tropical storms. Hurricanes only had names back then. This way they can say we had(however many) named storms. A political ploy, I say.

It is now. All Global data is suspect now. The corrections to Hansen's data just opened a whole new can of worms. He will soon have to give up how he compensated for the huge loss of temperature stations across the former soviet union. The so-called calculated evidence is slowly falling apart.

Well of course not but the point is if the record temp was reversed we would have breaking news stories all day long telling us that we are all going to die of we don't become cave dwellers immediately. Then of course we would be told that huricaine Dean was further proof that we need to act now.

But I think you know this, you just wanted to show that you understood Freshmen science.
