The "feminist radio company whose founders include Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem failed to attract an audience and it signed off the air for good on Friday.
When the talk-radio network, called GreenStone, officially launched in September 2006, NewsMax reported that it was a "new left-wing radio network that plans to appeal to women listeners and counter the dominance of conservative talk radio.
GreenStone claimed it would deliver "de-politicized, de-polarized talk radio by women hosts for female listeners, and Steinem said it would offer an alternative to current radio talk, which she described as "very argumentative, quite hostile, and very much male-dominated.
She also said radio was "overbalanced toward the ultra-right. But "Greenstone Medias brand of tepid liberalism didnt appeal to women, Carrie Lukas, author of "The Politically Incorrect Guide to Women, Sex and Feminism, writes in the New York Post.
Greenstone offered interviews with such liberals as Ralph Nader, as well as segments on parenting and relationships.
But its programming was picked up by only eight affiliates in small to mid-sized markets, and its backers have now pulled the plug.
GreenStones CEO Susan Ness deplored the end of GreenStone as a loss for women. But Lukas observes: "Perhaps Ness should use her time off to tune in to other stations. Shell find there are many prominent women on the airwaves theyre just not saying what she thinks they should.
Lukas pointed to Laura Ingraham, who is heard on 340 stations and has an audience of more than 5 million, and Dr. Laura Schlessinger, with some 7.75 million listeners.

If you really want to irritate someone, point out something obvious that they are trying to ignore.
??? Hanoi Jane had a radio network ???
Dang, I missed my chance at a boycott.
Cue Nelson Muntz......
Good riddance.
It should be obvious to liberals that, when given a choice, radio audiences do not listen to left wing vitriol. The only way these liberal radio networks will continue on the air is to revive the Fairness Doctrine. However, even if they continued to broadcast no one will be listening.
HA HA!
Hanoi Jane richly deserves whatever failures or disappointments that may come her way.
That she enjoys freedom that the very men she spit on died for is a source of great irritation to me whenever it’s brought up. In a just world, she’d be a resident of VietNam right now, enjoying their communist paradise since the late 1960s.

Get outta here you old rag and take your femenist friends with you!
I don’t think Benn Mugged is a feminist and you’ve probably hurt his feelings.
Liberals just don’t get it. They don’t need a radio network. They’ve already got ABCCBSNBCMSNBCCNNPBS, and they control it all, 100%. Liberal theology has reached saturation levels in American society. Try to pump any more in and it’s just going to precipitate out of the solution. THAT’s why liberal talk radio fails.
The liberal radio niche is already fully filled, at public expense, by PBS.
Further, regular network radio also does a splendid job with promoting liberally spun stories in their “news” segments.
It is amazing to me that the media continues to think of itself as “neutral”. They just can’t understand why “liberal” radio fails, time after time.
The objective of “the fairness doctrine” isn’t to provide liberals with programming for liberal audiences, it is to provide conservative audiences with the liberal talking points from liberal mouths that conservative audiences tuned out over a decade ago.
We’ve left the plantation and this is just the DNC trying to get us back under their thumb.
When the Left still finds reason to debate basic facts such as “who won” the 2000 and 2004 elections, whether Libby “outed” Plame, whether Bush “knew” about the 9-11 attacks in advance, it is POINTLESS to waste valuable airtime discussing any of these topics with them.
When you get to issues of policy and morals, like the estate tax, abortion, illegal immigration, etc. there is little common ground or even acceptable terms (they won’t refer to a fetus as a baby, but they never refer to a premature delivered baby as a fetus).
The language of the Left is very much heard on talk radio. They just want more of the airtime to defend their positions. Something that never happens in the nightly news. Or in college and high school classes with the conservative perspective.
Air America has tanked yet the Slimes wrote a gazillion articles about how great it was!
I thought McCain-Feingold made that illegal?
