Rove bashing, Bush bashing, Republican bashing, and conservative bashing, all rolled into one grand enterprise. From a liberal's standpoint, what could possibly be more joyous?

Note that the authors do not compare the prevailing sentiments today with those of ten, twenty, or thirty years ago--neutral numbers that would give some reasonable perspective--but with numbers from 2002, 2003, or even 1994 (the high-water mark of American conservatism--so far, anyway) in order to make a point. Anyone with even a rudimentary knowledge of statistics knows that this is not the proper way to examine suspected trends.

As for the comment that only "49 percent [of Americans] think that military strength is the best way to ensure peace," it is doubtful that the entire remainder of 51 percent think otherwise. There are almost certainly enough people in the "Don't Know" category to ensure that the 49 percent still represents a plurality of Americans on this issue--just don't expect that the authors of this highly tendentious piece will point that out.

"a tight-fisted approach toward government aid to the poor" Obviously they are referring to a redistribution of wealth from those that earned it to those who didn't. Tight fisted or prevention of theft through government?

The only thing that is permanent is “We the people”....as long as we enforce that idea. But....I guess some of our Congressmen/women could be considered permanent also. Like Kennedy. We need term limits to get these people out of office.

The era of conservative values -- a tight-fisted approach toward government aid to the poor, traditional positions on social issues and a belief in a muscular foreign policy -- that emerged in the 1990s is coming to a close.,p> Don't they say this everytime they are ahead in a poll? I have never seen a MSM story about the death of liberalism. Hundreds of stories though on how the conservative movement is dying.

The only thing Rove created permanently was a ‘war time President’.

Permanent Republican Majority?

could have happened except too many republicans (holier than thou) sat out the last election and gave the lib/dems both houses of congress!!!!

in the 2008 election...although some might not be in accord with Rudy/Mitt/Fred, etc....standing on principle and not voting will let the the bee-atch...the piaps waltz into the white house!!!!!

And if you’re right Mr. Kohut and Mr. Doherty—what will you have then? Will you have a 50% (or higher) tax rate, a more confused judiciary, more criminals around the block waiting for you, a mess of a society as we bend for every element? Yes, masters in the media, you will, and you won’t like it very much.
Only after such desturction will you come to realize something different about politics but it will be too late. Once its in, its almost impossible to get out. You’ll be caught with the rest of us in a new kind of quagmire—within the country—the once free United States—all because you didn’t think during the years you wrote tripe like this.
Dummies.
Ignorance on free reign—our media. Stupidity on assignment—our media.

The rumors of the demise of conservatives are greatly exaggerated.

From a liberal's standpoint, what could possibly be more joyous?

The coronation of Empress Hillary I of the United Socialist States of America?

In the run up to the last election the Washington Post demonstrated in the most convincing way that they've become the newspaper of record for their friends in the antisemitic fascist wing of the Democrat party.

They pray for a permanent majority ~ and ultimately they'll be sending people to the death camps.

Anything a "postie" says should be heavily discounted if you value your life and your children's future.
