It appears that one can remove the African from Africa’s tribal culture, but not remove the tribal mentality from the African...
Is there a nation on the globe who has sacrificed and done more than America toward freedom and self realization for black Africans?
Is there a nation more reviled by blacks than America...
It appears no good turn goes unpunished...
MLK was a good pool player. Picked up a lot of tricks at the pool table while he studied at Crozer Theological Seminary in Chester, PA. They had a student lounge area with a pool table.
an assassinated socialist made ever more popular by said assassination and seems more benign when compared to his contemporaries....besides he actually did march with Moses at Selma....but still.....I’ll die never seeing the merit he garners
a newcomer mulatto abandoned by his black actually african daddy and raised lily white and who then becomes reborn black (the Halle transformation)and magically invents granny time in Kenya to further bolster the Uncle Remusness of it all and who in my view only has one redeeming quality in that he smokes.
and a disgraced dogfighter who is probably unclean and inarticulate like Hussein. (from Biden lest any race baiters here pounce)
now, is anyone surprised that an unrepentant 60s black radical group honours these folks just because they are black and known?
Hear Hear
Who gives a pooch about dog fighting except a bunch PETA peckers. Sure its a crime but so is speeding. Give Vick a break already. On another note the Democrat tent appears torn between the animal voting rights eco-weenies and black voters.
So the pro-anmal-torture crowd is heard from. Welcome to the discussion.
Sure its a crime but so is speeding.
In most, but not all, states, traffic offenses are civil offenses, not criminal.
Give Vick a break already.
Femur, humerus, tiibia/fibula or radius/ulna, clavicle, scapula, pelvis, what did you have in mind? I'm a bit partial to both patellae, myself. More likely to end his career.
Vick will not be honored. This story is ia week old; two or three days later, the SCLC leadership said that Vick had no place on the program. Just like his league, his team, and his sponsors, they took a couple of days to mull things over before dumping his sorry ass.
Or maybe he's just preparing the PR for stacking the jury.
Good to hear...I recant of my previous.
Aaron has been a class act from the day he entered the public eye, and here in Atlanta he's as respected a figure as there is. The hatred he faced when he was chasing the Babe's record is unforgivable. And how that his record has been broken by a lesser man, his honorable conduct throughout his reign as home run king is gaining new attention.
But it just happened. Next year, he ought to be recognized. Bit of short notice for this year. He deserves a full tribute, with speakers from out of town and folks who've known him for years, not something hastily-arranged.
Never advocated animal torture. Dog fighting just never made my top ten crimes list...not even close. Crimes against people are of far greater concern in my opinion. Dogfighting was covered under animal cruelty statutes for a long time.
Vick's alleged dogfighting is not even close to the crimes and alleged crimes committed by celebrities.
“The hatred he faced when he was chasing the Babe’s record...”
This IMO is a revisionist overstatement (I’m quite old enough to remember it well), but we agree about Hank Aaron the man in every way.
It certainly wasn't widespread, and it wasn't widely reported, but Aaron received daily death threats. Mostly along the lines that a n----r shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as the hallowed Babe.
Oh, Aaron certainly didn't face the same level of hatred that, say, Jackie Robinson did, but it was there, and it was far more virulent and hateful than anything Barry Bonds has had to face.
If you watch the famous video of #715, two guys jump out from the stands and run the bases with him. As they run up behind him, you can see him flinch -- wondering if they mean him harm. But no, they were just a couple of yahoos who wanted to be a part of the moment, and they committed no greater assault than a firm clap on the back. When Aaron trotted the bases for the 25th anniversary (or was it the 30th?), those two yahoos were invited back to reprise their roles.
but we agree about Hank Aaron the man in every way.
Interesting thing about Hank Aaron: He broke the record for career home runs, , but he never led the league in any single season; flashier players came and went, while he just marched along. While everyone was watching Maris and Mantle battle for #61* in 1961, Aaron hit just 34 dingers. His best season total was 47 in 1971, a year when Willie Stargell hit 48.
That should be in textbooks. The lesson for kids: short-term goals are no substitute for a long-term vision, and a hot streak is no substitute for a work ethic and day-in, day-out determination. Serious baseball fans know and respect Willie Stargell. But people who have never seen a baseball game know Hank Aaron.
Another tidbit about Aaron is that he was the last player to go from the Negro Leagues to the majors. He went from segregation to being celebrated as a hero in Atlanta, in the heart of the Deep South, and when he did it he was honored by a black mayor.
When you see Hank Aaron in person -- I've never met him, but I've walked past him a time or two -- the one word that springs to mind is dignity. He still has the build and bearing of an athlete, though obviously softer and thicker around the middle with age. He dresses well, speaks humbly, and is polite to everyone.
He does not strut, does not need to be a star. He could have said any number of things about Barry Bonds -- and I would have backed him n most of them -- but instead was gracious in his silence and genuine in his congratulations. A sportsman and a gentleman. If more of today's athletes were like him, Mike Vick would have been set straight on all the gangsta BS by his teammates a long time ago.
probably.
Are you being facetious?
Well, I think there are enough other nationalities involved in dogfighting also... and yes, they are prosecuted too. But you only hear about them on shows like “Animal Cops” on Animal Planet.
The telling thing is that Vick managed to rise to such celebrity status in spite of his vices... can any one say ‘race card’?
Yeah... that’s what I said! :-)
hmm....
