Southern Christian Leadership Conference Will Honor Michael Vick

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference will gather to celebrate the organization's 50th anniversary this evening, with other festivities running through Wednesday. As part of their get together, the SCLC will honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the promise of Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama and the ... Well, the something of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

Although the SCLC did not specify how it will honor Vick, they did claim he would be recognized at some point.

"We will work with anyone who opens their heart and arms to us," President Charles Steele said.
Michael Vick? Seriously?

I honestly do not recall Vick "opening his heart" to the SCLC, but I could have easily missed it. Either way, I am baffled as to how they could even mention Vick's name in the same sentence as Martin Luther King Jr. or Barack Obama, let alone honoring him at the same event.

I'll be quite anxious to see how they end up spinning this public relations stunt.

I find it hard to believe that MLK was a fan of dog fighting. Live and learn...

He’s one of their own, nothing else matters.

Time to stand shoulder to shoulder against this racist rigamarole!

Martin Luther King would have patted Vick on the back.

NOT!!!!!

Ahhh...the promise of Barak Obama...whose church holds transgendered theology conferences and espouses black power.

Lovely.

Honoring the Honorable Hank Aaron would be the honorable thing to do.

You can tell when an organization has rotted to the core.

MLK Jr. then = "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

SCLC today = It is the color of a man's skin and not the content of their character that really matters.

They backed off, did not honor Vick.

Honor him as what? The low life that brought the heinousness of dogfighting to the forefront of the American conciousness?

The SCLC will support any black man or woman as long as they aren’t Republicans. If the pitbulls prove to be mostly white in color, the SCLC will probably give Vick a medal.

Sounds like something from the Onion. The black community would be much better off if they focused on issues such as poverty, teenage pregnancy, and education rather than taking up the case of whatever black celeb has been most recently arrested regardless of how much evidence their is that he is guilty.

I’m thinking that O.J., the double-murderer who walked, will probably make some kind of presentation.

I suggest that when he is found guilty that, for punishment, they tie him to a post naked, from the waist down, and turn a hungry pit bull loose.
