Not only do we want the best, brightest and most qualified, but the military needs those who really want to serve and defend the US. I wouldn’t want a moron watching my back in a crisis.

True, those who are in the military against their will don't make good soldiers, I witnessed that first hand.

True, but President Bush should have expanded the military immediately after Sept 11th. Even with reenlistment numbers up, units are feeling the stress and strain of multiple deployments. We need a few more divisions, to offset the current deployment rotation, and to refit our major strike units.

President Bush and all the other “great thinkers” underestimated the Iraq insurgency, and are now in some sort of weird collective denial about troop and equipment readiness. Now they have the so called “war czar” out there floating trial balloons for a “draft”.
