Man Pleads Guilty In Shopping Mall Bomb Plot

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Somali pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to a charge involving a plot to blow up a central Ohio shopping mall.

Nuradin Abdi agreed to plead guilty to conspiring to providing material support for terrorists, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

He was indicted on four counts but only pleaded guilty to the conspiracy to provide material support charge, Landers reported.

Abdi was scheduled to go on trial in federal court next week, 10TV reported.

Abdi was accused of wanting to blow up a shopping mall. The target was never made public, 10TV News reported.

Abdi's attorney spoke with reporters following his client's hearing.

"It's better to minimize your losses," said Mahir Sharif. "He has a life ahead of him. Let's face it, with all due respect to America and Americans, the jury he was going to face are not his peers."

When asked if his client would testify in any other cases, Sharif said he would not.

"He said, 'I am a Muslim I'm not going to go in front of the government and testify against any other Muslims,'" Sharif said.

A spokesman for Abdi's family also addressed reporters.

"This makes the family more comfortable," said Yusef Abucar. "Even though they are not very happy with the outcome of the plea."

Convicted terrorist Iyman Faris, who also lived in Columbus, was scheduled to testify on Abdi's behalf next week, the newspaper reported. Faris was to say that Abdi's comments represented his anger with U.S. foreign policy and not an actual plan to blow up a mall.

Faris is serving a 20-year prison sentence for plotting to blow up the Brooklyn Bridge.

Abdi will most likely be sentenced to 10 years in prison, Landers reported. He will also face deportation after being released.

So is he an American citizen, green card, or what? So they have now introduced the inablity for them to get a fair trial! The lawyer needs to be investigated. I think he is trying to make the case that the man can only have a trial under Sharia/Muslims! This plea is a set-up!

If Americans were not his peers then he does not deserve the same rights... specifically the American right of trial by jury... can't have it both ways.

Liberalism, which is a philosophy of consolation for Western Civilization as it commits suicide. Credits to Jerry Pournelle on that.

'I am a Muslim I'm not going to go in front of the government and testify against any other Muslims,'" Sharif said.

I can't help but read their statements and see them as a set-up to take down our legal system. These people should be treated as enemies of the state, not criminals.

Is it them or us that is trying to have it both ways? These people who seek to 'make jihad' on us are soldiers, spys, and warriors. When will we decide they are an enemy?

EBH: "When will we decide they are an enemy?"

"Enemy? My only important goal is to give them re-entry and then Amnesty.
Anyone in the way of my goal is the enemy."

If this man refuses to testify about what he knows about the others in the conspiracy, he should Never NEVER, NEVER go free. This man, after ten years in prison, IN NO WAY should be allowed to make it back to his home turf!

“Let’s face it, with all due respect to America and Americans, the jury he was going to face are not his peers.”

Give them time and strength and they will demand and get Muslim jurors (and not guilty verdicts).

I am no lawyer, but can’t they get the sentence overturned if the convicted couldn’t ‘get a fair trial/jury of his peers.’

I don’t think they can get Muslim jurors anymore than Italian mafia can get Italian jurors from their neighborhoods. But nowadays some liberal judge is apt to rule anyway he or she pleases. So who knows?

WTH? Why are they even letting this convicted terrorist testify? What kind of credibility can he possibly bring to the trial?

That gives him 10 years to convert Ohio inmates to the ways of Islam and jihad.

Ever since Somalis dragged the bodies of our soldiers through their streets, this country has increased efforts to import them. We need to know the actually names of the people who have made the decisions to admit them and hold them responsible.

Good point. I always wondered how the ‘poverty-stricken’ Somalis managed to make it to America in such large numbers. Is it 30,000 in Lewiston,Maine? I imagine dumping that number of illiterate third worlders into a town would just about kill it.
How many in Minneapolis-St Paul? Who is responsible for bringing all this ‘diversity’ here and shoving it down our throats?
I’m willing to bet the democrat that is responsible does not live in either of those aforementioned communities.

"He said, 'I am a Muslim I'm not going to go in front of the government and testify against any other Muslims,'" Sharif said.

Even if subpoenaed?

Well, since he doesn't fancy that infidel jury, infidel court and infidel country, why the heck he's staying there? Kick him off if he survived 10 years in jail... together with the family and his fellow sectarians.

And you know what? I meet quite a number of Somalis, and regardless of how filthy, half-literate if at all, stinky, stupid and prejudiced they are - all of them are absolutely genuinely convinced in their superiority over any of us, infidels.

And, even living of the handouts paid for by our tax money, they don't hesitate to demonstrate it. Among the Muzzies they're the most disgusting ones.
