An Administration LOST at Sea
American Spectator ^ | 31 july 07 | Doug Bandow

Posted on 07/31/2007 2:59:11 AM PDT by rellimpank

Once the scourge of goo-goo internationalism, the Bush administration is now desperate to appease the United Nations crowd, Europeans, and "transies," as the transnational progressives, or NGO gaggle, is called. The president's latest concession is pushing the Law of the Sea Treaty, appropriately known as LOST.

Needless to say, all of the wrong people are excited at the prospect of American ratification of LOST, after a more than three decade long struggle. Those who oppose the inevitable LOST victory will show themselves to be "part of an extreme out-of-touch minority," said one happy treaty advocate.

If this passes Bush will go down as the worst President in American history. This is a lot worse than giving away the Panama Canal.

Explained George W. Bush: “Joining will serve the national security interests of the United States, including the maritime mobility of our armed forces worldwide.

George Bush is an idiot!!!!!!! That’s why they have guns, or wise you might as well be the Greenland navy.

I’m throwing this out as a thought, I think Condi Rice is behind all this crap.

To many around here, if you really can’t stand what new crazy out of GOP character thing Bush is up to, you are considered full of hate.

I really hate this idea and I really hate the Bush globalist push that is on.

I don’t know what went wrong but I think Bush thinks that he has nothing to lose pandering to the global community.

Quite frankly some of the things being done and bandied about in Washington these days really gives me lots of concern.

i guess we are no longer sovereign and that we are brought into dhimmitude with this homage to the united nations and dependence on muslim oil... i would have expected more from our leaders, but the writing is on the wall with democrats pushing reliance on government for solving problems.

stay vigilant. stay free.

I live in Ohio and John Boehner is my representative. He can find the beach (tans a lot) but I seriously doubt he would know what I was talking about.
On the other hand one of my Senator’s is Voinovich, who makes Boehner look like a Rhodes Scholar.

"Under the Law of the Sea Treaty, an 'International Seabed Authority' would control the minerals and other resources of the oceansÂ’ seabed. After taking its own cut, this UN body would transfer whatever is left to select third-world governments and non-governmental organizations.

The Law of the Sea Treaty also would give the UN power to tax American citizens and businesses, which has been a long-time dream of the anti-sovereignty globalists. LOST also would establish an international court system to enforce its provisions and rulings. Imagine not being able to do business internationally without the approval of the United Nations!

....Let us hope that the Senate does the sensible thing and rejects LOST and any further UN encroachments on our sovereignty." -- Congressman RON PAUL

TODAY FEW PEOPLE DEFEND the original treaty. But the mantra of proponents, even some on the right, is that LOST has been "fixed." Ken Adelman of the Aspen Institute wrote: "Scraped away are virtually all the barnacles we denounced during our 1982 'scuttle diplomacy'." Indeed, he added, "This seabed mining regime reflects free-market principles."

Globalism in the name of free markets. GOSH WHERE HAVE WE HEARD THAT BEFORE???? HHHMMMMM?

Ron Paul needs to spend more time on this and other issues, a little less on Austrian economics/Federal Reserve/gold currency.

It's silly to let a Tobin tax or a LOST treaty pass to fund the U.N. given how corrupt they are. And six/sevenths of the world is under the sea. Why should we give up our rights to explore there or build up the world economy by exploiting it?

A good issue. Needs more attention from all the GOP candidates. Especially RP.
