For Immediate Release 07/25/2007 Pelosi Statement on Contempt of Congress Vote by House Judiciary Committee

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on a vote by the House Judiciary Committee calling for the full House to seek contempt of Congress citations for White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten and former White House Counsel Harriet Miers following their refusal to comply with subpoenas issued in the U.S. Attorney investigation:

“The contempt proceedings in the House Judiciary Committee today are part of a broader effort by House Democrats to restore our nation’s fundamental system of checks and balances.

"The Constitution gives the Congress a crucial role in overseeing the Executive Branch in order to protect the American people against overreaching, incompetence, and corruption. I am hopeful that today’s vote will help the Administration see the light and release the information to which the Judiciary Committee is entitled.

"For the last six years, under Republican leadership, Congress failed to conduct its proper oversight role, resulting in fiascos such as the mismanagement of our Iraq policy, widespread corruption by contractors such as Halliburton, and the failed response to Hurricane Katrina.

“Congress will act to preserve and protect our criminal justice system and to ensure appropriate Congressional oversight in all areas essential to the well-being of the American people.”

I think it’s funny watching these demoncrats spending all this time on crap that is not working for them.

While they are holding hearing after hearing (over 100 now) to see if they can get something on President Bush the terrorists are trying to figure out ways of killing Americans. Talk about priorities being out of wack.

With all their stupid hearings, they’ve come up with nothing except making themselves look as dumb as they are.

If there is anything good about all this garbage, it’s that they can’t move their socialist agenda froward.

THAT’S A GOOD THING.

I’m waiting for our Congressional Republicans to sound off on this. This is a no-win situation for the Dims and would seem like a good issue for Congressional Republicans to capitalize and pound Dims. However, I’m not holding my breath.

President Bush should subpoena some Pelosi and Reid aids just to test this “check and balance” theory.

She knows she can’t impeach, and she knows she’s in big trouble with her brain-damaged base because she can’t impeach, so she does this, to try to mollify the brainless ones who so heavily populate her side.

Oh boy! I'm excited. She's going after Feinstein, Reid, Leahy, and the other Democrats for their corrupt ways. Attagirl!

"The Constitution gives the Congress a crucial role in overseeing the Executive Branch in order to protect the American people against overreaching, incompetence, and corruption. - - - "

It seems to me the Founders should have also provided a mechanism for the Executive to "oversee" the Congress, both individually and collectively. Yes, I know we the People are supposed to do that by voting, but given that 90% of House districts are now gerrymandered to make that very difficult, it seems rather one-sided.

Lots of accusations. For the speaker of the house to do party jabbing proves she is not interested in country, only party. Party on Nancy. Better she does this than rule over legislation.

Does anyone even know what this concerns anymore? The whole thing is so convoluted.

This somehow relates to the firing of the federal prosecutors, doesn't it?

Who cares about facts as long as the impression of wrong-doing exists.

THAT’S A GOOD THING.

Agreed!

However every poll taken recently, including the only one I ever pay attention too, [Rasmussen] has the Dims steadily pulling ahead of the GOP in all areas of concern up to and NOW including NATIONAL SECURITY.

It seems the more maniacal the Dims and MSM get the more the public agrees with them.

Of course no poll matters except on Election Day, but I do fear a sweep for the Dims, especially with the disaffection for the GOP manifesting itself here on FR.
