The Ironic Collapse of John McCain
RealClearPolitics ^ | July 19, 2007 | George Will

Posted on 07/18/2007 9:38:45 PM PDT by gpapa

At noon on April 25, in Prescott Park in Portsmouth, N.H., John McCain announced his presidential candidacy. Less than two hours earlier, in the U.S. Supreme Court, a lawyer who had been solicitor general in the Clinton administration spoke in the name of McCain. The senator had filed a brief urging the court, in a case arising from an application of the McCain-Feingold law regulating political speech, to uphold the constitutionality of suppressing the speech of a small grass-roots lobbying organization.

In 2004, Wisconsin Right to Life, a small citizens' group that posed no conceivable threat of "corruption" to anyone or anything, wanted to run an ad urging Wisconsin's senators, Herb Kohl and Russ Feingold, not to participate in Senate filibusters against the president's judicial nominations. But Feingold was running for re-election, and WRTL's proposed ad was declared an "electioneering communication" (any radio or TV ad that "refers to" a candidate for federal office). And the McCain-Feingold blackout period bans such ads 30 days before a primary or 60 days before a general election -- when ads matter most because people are paying attention to politics.

Bummer John...you made good press and became a darling of the media by mocking the right wing of your party. Now you’re sad they don’t support you. Major bummer.

McCain is not fit to be a dogcatcher after McCain-Feingold and McCain-Kennedy.

Buh Bye.

Time to retire and scream tantrums at your Mexican maid, John.

This is a beautiful example of the extreme short term thinking of politicians.

McLame pandered to the media to get face time, short term satisfaction, without regard to the long term implications from his base.

McLame is the typical old politician, believing that the 'peeples' will forget what he did come election time.

Hey McLame, hey all politicians: Those Days Are Over!!

He is right on the war on terror, and I applaud him for that. He’s wrong on just about everything else.

The irony is that if he does retire, he may be able to scream at his Mexican maid, but if he has his way, the border will be the Mexican-Canadian border and his Mexican mistress will be yelling at him.

“It’s better to burn out, than it is to rust, McCain is gone but is not forgotten”

A little spin on Neil Young’s song “Rust Never Sleeps”

McCain rode the fence for too long and the barbed wire finally snagged his crotch.

May all the elitist power-hungry morons in Congress go down in flames like McCain. Their “in-your-face” arrogance has been seen by one and all. Let the American voters take care of these traitors that put themselves before their constituents and before their country, her security, and her brave troops. With people like this in elected office, we don’t need any other enemies. Our founding fathers and all those that paid the ultimate sacrifice to protect this nation are turning in their graves at this disgrace.

John has been mocking the right wing of his party since the mid 90s, the children he was playing with, (the press,) covered it up for him back then.

Let’s see, he turned on the gun owners and has supported several gun control laws. He has turned on free speech and wants to silence taxpayers by counting days before an election.
Is he really an American?????? I was never a POW but I am a nam combat vet and this guy does not reflect many of my views!!!!!

The Mexican-Canadian border/ What states border that area?

Before his campaign could collapse, one has to assume it got off the ground in the first place.

McPr*ck's bid for the White House was D.O.A. eight years ago.

McCainiac wasn't fit to be president after the Keating 5 bank scam was uncovered in the 90's
