(Tommy) Thompson Campaign: Hits Airwaves with Immigration Plan

Today, Tommy Thompson's Presidential campaign began airing a new sixty second radio ad focused on Governor Thompson's plan for real immigration reform.

In the advertisement, Governor Thompson outlines his common sense plan to address immigration. First, Governor Thompson opposes any legislation that creates amnesty for illegal aliens.

"We must support the rule of law in our country. People who are found to be in the country illegally should be returned to their home countries and should have to wait at the end of the line, behind people who are seeking to enter the country or become citizens legally," said Thompson.

Second, Governor Thompson would complete the border security wall that Congress authorized last year within the first 150 days of his presidency.

Third, Thompson would pardon the border patrol agents who are being imprisoned for doing nothing more than their jobs.

This Thompson would be a major player, if he didn’t take the HHS job. Tommy is tainted by Bush’s baggage.

The other Thompson is saying the right things, definitely on the border security issue.

I’ve admired Tommy Thompson throughout his career.

I’ve been deeply unimpressed with him in the debates.

On paper he is the perfect candidate, a pro-life Catholic, popular former governor of a just slightly blue state. He’d gaurantee us Wisconsin meaning all he’d have to do to win is carry all the Bush states from 2004 less Ohio.

He has a good record in Wisconsin, which is a key state. Also, his promise to pardon the imprisoned border patrol agents is a good idea.

I think that would be a great idea. Thompson would help not only in Wisconsin, but in Michigan (which has a hugely unpopular DemocRAT Governor) and Minnesota (which has an increasingly unpopular DemocRAT legislature).

However, one Freeper recently said that the two Thompsons dislike each other. I hope that is based on inaccurate information.

Governors do not have ACU ratings like Congresscritters do. His major claim to fame is being the father of welfare reform. He's pro life and pro gun rights but I'm sure Wisconsinites can fill you in more.

Not sure, he has never served in Congress.

But as Governor, he led the way on innovative welfare reform and helped to dramically reduce crime.

You’re tough! Give a guy a break. Bush is a lying, deceitful person, true, but Thompson got out of there.

And Repubs have a shot at 2008 despite Bush. The Dems are wholly alienated from the people and what they want, for example their overnight stunt today.

We’ve fallen pretty far, pretty fast in terms of our evaluation of candidates. Now it is viewed as legitimate to ask how good they will do on camera as if the acting component of the Presidency is the critical component of it. I think it’s a mischaracterization of Reagan; the liberals couldn’t explain him so they made up this idea of “the great communicator” as his sole real strength to explain away the success of his ideas and his consistency.

Guess I’m saying that in a world rightside up we’d be talking about Tommy Thompson a lot more.

I have nothing against Tommy Thompson, but I find it interesting how all the candidates eventually come out propounding the issues which have been publicly stated many times by Duncan Hunter from the beginning of the race.
