HERKIMER Assemblyman Marc Butler, R,C,I - Newport, has called on the New York State Police to consider Remington firearms products in the performance of their duties.
Butler said he understands the state police is evaluating its long-term needs in terms of some of the weapons they will use in the future. He said he wanted to be sure Remingtons name will be included in the mix, and has received assurances from the state police that Remington will be considered. Butler pointed out that Remington has a long history in New York, hires Mohawk Valley residents and pays taxes in New York.
I would therefore suggest that the New York State Police give Remington an opportunity to either bid or supply our states troopers with the tactical rifles and other types of rifles and long guns they require in the performance of their duties, Butler wrote to Fulton.
It makes supreme sense to me, all things being equal, to give this opportunity to a company that operates within New Yorks borders, pays taxes and expenses here, and most importantly, hires several hundred workers.
In response, Felton wrote a letter to Remington Arms that he was familiar with the fine products that Remington manufactures and has reviewed the companys product catalogue. He said that there are no short-term plans to buy patrol rifles or shotguns, but that the agency is now reviewing its long-term firearms needs.
In the future, we will be more than willing to thoroughly examine your firearms products for potential purchase, Felton wrote.
WOW! An Assembly man doing his job!
Now, HERE is a man who knows the lingo! /sarcasm
Why the sarcasm?
No difference (that I know of) between “rifles” and “long guns”
Is this how murrrica is functioning now?
“This is my rifle this is my “long” gun”?”
Now, is that any way to embrace the global economy or diversity?
He was referring to shotguns, I’m sure.
I sound so out of touch; don’t I?
Most agencies I know of, including mine, use the Remington 870.
A Rifle is a Rifle. A long gun can be a rifle or a SHOTGUN.
Shotguns, generally, are not rifled. Non-rifled muzzle loaders are also considered long-guns.
So yes, there are long-guns that are not Rifles.
:)
The Rem 700 action with accurized barrel is a reasonably priced product for swat and those who wish to reach out and touch somebody.
I’d add that a rifle can be a carbine and a carbine in some circles would not be considered a long gun
at least he didn’t say “assault weapons” :)
You’ll probably one of those that will kick up a fuss when the UN mandates the biometric identification chip plan to be implemented.
Yes, they are. I’ve had the opportunity (as a civilian) to shoot the military sniper version, and it was quite handy at hitting targets at 300 meters with no problem. That was the max limit of the range we were on, so we couldn’t try it any further out.
I shall whittle it clean out of my flesh with a bowie knife clasped in my cold dead fingers.
i must have a bad 700. i have one in .223 that doesn’t impress me one bit. 3/4” is the best i can do with it, about 1” is average for it. my AR15 shoots a bit better (when i have a scope on it, 1/2”) my savage in .308 also shoots under 1/2”- and i paid $75 less for it.
my 870 OTOH is the best shotgun i’ve ever shot. 1 shot, 1 kill on all but 1 deer i’ve shot with it.
