WOW! When I saw the headline I thought it might be like a 20% cut in price. Instead it is a half price sale. What is the reason for the discount? I'm thinking the original $25 million asking price was way too high. However, I have seen smaller homes on Star Island in the middle of Biscayne Bay here in Florida selling for more than that. Any ideas on the huge price slash other than maybe the original asking price was too high? Is the housing market really slow in Northern VA?

I would think the Kennedy mystique would be more of a factor than anyhting else. They aren’t as popular as they used to be, or she has a reallly terrible agent.

The place is probably obsolete and falling apart.

Maybe the place is somewhat "worn." Can you imagine the wear and tear from raising that brood of kids there? It's a wonder the place is still standing. Not to mention the menagerie of critters they always kept on the place.

Sounds like a perfect place for a “FLIP THIS HOUSE” episode.

the 19th-century mansion has 18 rooms, 10½ baths and 12 fireplaces. The property also includes a pool, pool house, tennis court and stables.

Well, if it was sitting on 50 acres, yes.
Shoehorned into little more than 5, No.

“Heritage” homes are money pits. Had relatives purchase one “cheaply” and spend tens of thousands to bring electrical and plumbing up to code. They stopped after they lifted up the carpets and didn’t find the hardwood they assumed would be there. Despite the low cost of purchase and numerous upgrades, they ended up taking a huge loss selling to a developer who razed it and put in condos. Lesson learned.

Ethel is trying to cut her carbon footprint in half so her son will stop calling her a ‘traitor’ and MAYBE even STFU.

I’m flabbergasted that a news article would use the word “mansion” in the same article with the name “Kennedy”.

For years the style manuals for newspapers and TV networks have required that these Kennedy properties be referred to as “compounds” and NEVER as “mansions.”
