Support The Troops Float A Hit in Greeley, Colorado!
eye witness | July 4, 2007 | Janinco

Posted on 07/04/2007 2:57:59 PM PDT by jan in Colorado

FReepers Weldgophardline and Fire engine red entered a float dedicated to our brave troops serving in the armed services. Fire engine red worked tirelessly for two months to prepare a float that was a proud tribute to our troops for the annual parade in Greeley, Colorado.

Besides displaying pictures of current service personnel, there is also a special heart on each side of the float with pictures honoring our brave troops who lost their lives fighting for our Country.

Pictures will be posted shortly, and FReepers Weldgophardline and Fire engine red will add their report later.

Many spectators enjoyed inspecting the float before the parade began.

FReepers Fire engine red and Jan in Colorado will be riding in the float and FReeper weldgophardline will be walking.

The crowd loved our float. People were lined up on both sides of the street for blocks!

A gentleman with two young children came up to us and said ours was the best float in the parade! Of course, we already knew that since it's a SUPPORT THE TROOPS float.

This is a work of love for all that serve. We have done this the past four years. We enjoy doing it and every year is different , it gets harder to do. This year it was down to the wire. We did not get two pieces done in time to put on the float and it upset us a lot. We had planned on have the two Mothers flags on the float. We have paints the flags on some plastic slip sheets and had started to put the gold mothers star on and it ate the plastic and would not stick so the plan was a bust. The float still looked good even with out the flags. Wow, you two are quick!

It was awesome how the crowd reacted when our float passed by! Many stood up and applauded for our troops, and some removed their hats and put their hands over their hearts as well.

Excellent to see the young people in support of this event, seeing how true Americans honor those who keep our freedom.

I know it was diappointing that you didn't get it finished, weldgophardline, but the float was AWESOME and I know the crowd loved it!

“Support The Troops Float A Hit in Greeley, Colorado! ^

I first read that as ‘Support the Troops. Float a hit in Greeley, Colorado!” and I thought, “Okay. Get me a ticket to Greeley and tell me who you want bumped off.”

We had a local radio station help by promoting the need for photos of our local service members and it paid off big time. we had over 65 photos come in and many of the parents and wife's could not believe someone would do this for them and their loved ones.
The most touching photo was from the sister and mother of SFC. Scott Brown that had died on may 18 of this year and asked if we would include him on the float.
We had a Fallen heart in the would and was glad to include it.

FALLEN BUT NOT FORGOTTEN

The most touching part of the float for me was the heart right in the center that displayed three fallen heroes...

SFC. Scott J Brown

Windsor, Colorado

PFC. Tyler R> MacKenzie
1st Battalion 502 Inf.
November 7, 1984-Nov. 2, 2005

Lcpl. Thomas J. Slocum

Let us all pray for these families and for all the families that have loved ones fighting for our Country
