“There is a simple reason for this: voters who want a controlled economy have no reason to vote for Republican candidates.”

Elaborate, please?

Exactly... what will we do without destroy Middle Class Americans' jobs and standard of living? The WSJ doesn't understand Americans reject a race to the bottom. Any politician who touts us working for Third World wages will pay the price.

Bingo: The Republican Party has to stop being the DemLite Party and start articulating conservative ideas. Stop operating out of fear and use your strengths. Conservatism still wins in America. The gazillions of phone calls, faxes, emails, and letters to Senators over the past few weeks should be proof of that. Be conservative and most of America will follow. Pander to this group and that group, and you will continue to lose elections.

The central premise of this article is false. Detailed polls on the attitudes of Hispanics have shown that those WHO ARE CITIZENS do NOT support an open-borders policy. To the contrary, they believe that new immigrants should play by the rules, the same as they did.

Some Republicans ARE selling out to business interests who want cheap (and illegal) labor to remain. It is the Democrats mostly who are selling out for cheap votes in this matter. The Wall Street Journal is not usually this sloppy on the facts as it is here.

What Jorge Bush and the WSJ do not understand or pretend to not know is what the Hispanics that do vote republican think about this bill. They do not like it! Those that come here legally and play by the rules expect the others to do the same thing. My brother in law waited 12 years to get his green card. He played by the rules and gets slapped in the face for it.

Trent Lott, McCain, and Mini-Mac from South Carolina then turn around and accuse us of being bigots and racists. The arrogance of these fools is without limit. I am white, but raised on the border and my wife is Mexican. But according to Mini-Mac (aka Lindsey Graham) I am a bigot and racist.

Every year I give the Republican party several hundred dollars. This year I do not even open their mail. When they called on the phone I informed them why I have not contributed nor will contribute.

In the future I shall contribute to individual races where the candidate reflects my personal political beliefs.

I’m not as far over into the anti-Bush camp as most Freepers seem to be, although the comment about “not wanting to do what’s right for America” almost did it. I think it’s possible Rove was playing behind Bush’s back or over his head. For instance, Bush’s cryptic comment at the post-mortem press conference when he fired Rumsfeld, indicating Rove hadn’t worked very hard. They were still counting votes on who would run the Senate and there was already a lot of talk about pushing immigration “reform” forward.

And the WSJ’s analysis that most Hispanic voters will go GOP is dead wrong. Most surveys say 70-30 Democratic among illegals

Higher when they are eligible for welfare, affirmative action, govt jobs, etc. That willingness to work hard for little money will disappear real fast once they have a choice

The more nonsense I read from politicians and the MSM concerning illegal immigration, the clearer it is that there is a ruling class in this country who literally have no concept of “rule of law” and “equality under the law”...and it seems to be because they themselves think they are beyond the laws they create and apply to the peons and peasants.....

When will people see the THREAT to our security with all the illegals already here and the illegals still pouring in?

Doesn’t this new attack in Glasgow and what happened in London tell all of the Pols including the administration that allowing open borders for the sake of getting votes and allowing the illegal pigs to stay in this country is a threat to our security and to this country?

We have no idea who is here what their true intent is but the greedy globalist companies and the greedy politicians who are so desperate for the “Hispanic” votes will allow them to stay and reward them and bring their relatives for yet more votes will jeopardize our security while putting American citizens thru hell at airports.

I, an American Citizen had to be put thru hell at MCCarron airport in Vegas last night very humiliating to have air blown at me thru some sort of device, yet the mexican illegals can walk right into this country.

Oh so mexicans are not terroists?? How do they know for sure? Because the terroists all appear to be non mexicans?
How do they know? How do they know that mexicans haven’t been taught to be a terroist?

This is insane all of it!

We have a war raging in Iraq to fight terroists yet we allow people to walk right into this country thru our borders. Does this really make any sense? Sure it does to greedy politicians.

Politicians selling out this country and it’s security to get hispanic votes but other voters be damned. What has the US of A become mexico suddenly and that’s why the hispanic vote is so sacred?

Notice how this was a Republican killed bill. No mention of the 15 Democrats who voted it down.

Or the Unions that were against this.

In some ways, Latino voters have enough in common (work ethic, social conservatism, etc) with the GOP that they could become part of the party base.

In other ways latino voters have enough in common (prefer strongman rule, used to corruption, bribes and threats to get anything done, feeding off the state, socialized industry) with the 'Rats that they could become part of their base.

One of my clients, who became legal because of the 1986 amnesty, and who is now working towards citizenship, told me he is worried about all the illegals coming from Mexico.

He said, “I came to America because I wanted to live in the U.S.A., not Mexico!”

you'll notice that hillary clinton had been wearing a muzzle until this bill was defeated.

now she comes out of the gate swinging.

Why? Because she can now cast a spell over the latino vote.

And then everyone on FR can blame Mexicans all over again, for electing Hillary.

Which is a pity, because conservatives could have and should have embraced them instead of wholesale demonizing them.

Jeb Bush might have come out of the woodwork (not necessarily a great thing, but perhaps better than the alternatives) and leveraged this block -- and perhaps it's not too late. But, the latino vote will or certainly could elect the next US president.

You blew it, conservatives. Blew it right out of the water with your own blind bigotry.
