Scott Rasmussens first law of politics is that Americas politicians arent nearly as important as they think they are. That law was clearly demonstrated earlier today when the United States Senate finally surrendered to the American people on immigration. Politicians may make things messy for a while, but over the long haul it is the American people who determine the nations fundamental policies.

Odd that as the reps go back to the Beltway, they think they are in the Club of Incumbancy. No thought of the BASE which ‘brung’ them to the dance. My guess is, many GOP Rinos are going to face primary challenges this time. Some Dems who won House races , especially down South, are going to be challenged by conservPubs and they may take as many as 10 House seats back. Oh the Dems will still control Congress but the House will be closer. Now, we have to get the right Pub to defeat Her Highness.
Gotta like that First Rule. Now, if only Specter and Graham, Teddy and Little Dickie Durban could learn that!
“...supporters of the doomed legislation often stated that the status quo is unacceptable.”
I agree with this statement 100% and, for this reason, I say we should vote the incumbents out, a clean sweep. Get the career politicians out and put in a new group of Representatives and Senators, people who are prepared, willing and anxious to listen to their constituents.
Yup.
“Gotta like that First Rule. Now, if only Specter and Graham, Teddy and Little Dickie Durban could learn that!”
They’ll learn it by leaving office.
I heard that Voinvich interview.
I bet several Senators are running for cover and hoping their state constituents have short memories. They are probably getting their impending forced retirement situations in order.
Lindsey Graham lost his dream of VP on the McCain ticket, since McCain also latched onto the amnesty monstrosity. Graham upset many people by his ‘bigot’ reference.
The battle is won but the war is still ongoing.
Quote: The real mystery in all of this is why the Senators and their cheerleaders didnt anticipate the public response. Perhaps they fell in love with their own rhetoric and forgot how it might sound to others.
This writer pegs the nail on the head of these arrogant bastardos.
one of the best things about this failure is now hitlery has to come up with an enforcement plan. That should be hitlarious.
Their hubris was thrown back their faces.
Did they really learn it? I wonder. The Rats and a few R`s are blaming Talk Radio, just like ALGORE blamed the NRA in 2000. I`m not sure they understand that in both cases, it was the American people.
I don’t thiink the fight is over. We should continue to man the phones, faxes and emails until they enforce the laws already on the books. The way I read these polls, most Americans don’t buy the enforcement part. My “Sanctuary” town is still welcoming illegals, so until I see something being done about this I won’t get behind any immigration reform.
We should hound them everyday until they get the message. Enforcement Now!
Demand a border fence! Build it NOW!! Beef up the border patrol and close our borders!

Right. Also ,the majority finally threw their weight around. We are awake and the horse is out of the barn. It is truly the night of the living dead.
We should all say a big “Thank you” to Algore for inventing the internet...
:)
I still think we need to determine why the powers that be were so adamant on forcing this issue in the face of overwhelming opposition? Is it the NWO? The NAU? What is it that would have them burn so much political capital, cut so many corners, and attempt to push this thru with minimal oversight or review?
Could it be the 30-60 million low-wage unskilled & semiskilled laborers from Mexico and Central America? The 2-5 million mostly skilled illegals from Canada? The several millions of other illegals from the Philippines, Communist China and elsewhere?
—We should all say a big Thank you to Algore for inventing the internet...—
He also invented algorithms...and algae.
That time is past...the next rule they need to learn is how to stand in the unemployment line.
Thank you to all of the Senators who stood up for America. They are the winners.
Do we? 20 million illegals are still in our country. More continue to pour in every day. We all pay billions to provide these criminals with everything from schooling to medical care. Nothing is done to truly secure our border. In fact, in DC, nothing is even proposed to truly secure our border.
I call that defeat, not victory.
[What is it that would have them burn so much political capital, cut so many corners, and attempt to push this thru with minimal oversight or review?]
Important questions that must be answered.
Godspeed, The Dilg
I always thought the first law of politics is that polls are not nearly as important as pollster think they are.
BUT but but the amnestistas worked so HARD on this thing....
they had meetings and EVERYTHING...
why shoot they even tried to reach ‘PRINCIPLED COMPROMISE’
HAHHAAAAHA
AND
BWHAHAHAHA
that was good.
well i hope now we can all quit WITH THESE INCESSANT PHONE CALLS to our busy buzzy congresscritters...
we have got to put an end to this constant strident citizen-like input into
our lawmaking process...
i just know our elected representatives are sick and tired of it....to!
god have mercy on their souls for what we’ve put them thru....
some of you people act like WE’RE payin the bills in this country.....like EE’RE payin THEIR salarys....
you act as if they’re workin for US.
pretty arrogant if aks me
now lets us all go back sleep and give these jaspers another crack at our 2 million bucks.....
they’re workin hard for you n they’re workin hard for me.
all things bein equal though...i’d like to keep my 2 trill.
thank you for your time.
We won!
I know it ended yesterday but if nobody congratulated you personally on this win against the amnesty bill, I wanted to do it. We shut down the capitol hill switchboard . . . first time that’s ever been done.
I know a lot of people have cut into work, family and personal time to fight against it. It just wouldn’t die.
But in the end, it did die, and not of natural causes. We killed it. Thank you for what you did.
YAY!
The senators that thought this thing up(Kennedy, et al)thought they could sneak it passed the voters in the dead of the night. No debate, no disclosing what was in the bill, just ram it through. That is how they thought they could get away with it. They knew the people, and most senators, wouldn't go for this bill if they really knew what was in it so they tried to illegally sneak it through and that is the answer to your questions.
I shudder to think about what might have happened had it NOT been for talk radio, and to a lesser extent, the Internet.
Imagine if the “fairness doctrine” had never been scrapped... There would have been no nation-wide talk radio call-in shows that could have motivated people the way they did.
It seems that the media, who was pretty much in the bag FOR the passage of the so called “CIR” bill, talks about how this was a great loss for Bush... Not too much mention regarding Reid, who did everything he could to be sure it passed... But nobody much is talking (again, in the MSM) about how the people rose up and let their representatives know what they thought... Sure occassionally you hear about how talk radio whipped up this furor, but not much else...
I wonder just why it is that nobody in Washington is talking about the grass-roots efforts against this bill... And the fact that talk radio was the only way people were able to learn about how awful this bill was: We certainly never got it from the media.

They can do all the irrational blaming they want, just like Algore blamed the NRA. But remember what Algore was blaming the NRA FOR — it was for the fact that he did NOT make it into the White House.
Unfortunately, there was a law passed in 2006 that was supposed to start, by building a fence... Since then, I believe that less than 20 miles of that fence has been built.
Again, we've got laws on the books. Nothing needs to be proposed at this point, with the possible exception of enforcing the existing laws. Which, as you point out, seems to be something that nobody in this administration is willing to do.
Mark
Another thing to remember about the media in this latest battle was how they turned a blind eye to the procedural malfeasance of Harry Reid and his squelching of dissenting opinion tactics.
Apparently the media only cares when stuff like that happens if republicans are showing power (as if pubs would ever have gone to the level of Reid’s tyranny). But as long as democraps do it, it’s perfectly fine.
I’ll agree with others that it’s one battle in a war that will continue and we mustn’t think it’s over. BUT...yesterday gave a much needed boost to the American public between the senate backing down and the house voting to prevent the FCC from initiating the Un-Fairness Doctrine.
We need more days like yesterday, but we’ll appreciate it’s accomplishments.
Bump!
We pay their salaries. We pay for staff salaries. We pay for the workout rooms, barbershops, and salons in the Capitol building. We pay for all the fact-finding (blink, blink) trips. For crying out loud, we pay for the toilet paper in their offices. OUR SENATORS AND REPRESENTATIVES ARE IN WASHINGTON TO DO OUR BIDDING!!!
I can’t stomach the arrogant boobs who take offense when the American people speak out on this (immigration) or any other issue. How dare they try to silence us.
“Again, we’ve got laws on the books. Nothing needs to be proposed at this point, with the possible exception of enforcing the existing laws.”
Amen.
Send a ‘thank you’ phone call, email, or fax to a Senator or Senators who voted this monstrosity back to its grave.
Yah, this is a winning issue for us politically and necessary for the good of our country . . . win/win to keep fighting. Screw the people who are saying we will lose the 8% Latin vote, latin Republicans are as likely to oppose illegals as everybody else.
Which means we still push on the main issue everyone wants addressed.
It is amazing that the Senate is so out of touch with the people that 46 senators actually voted to end debate and vote on this horrible, horrible bill.
This is why I have no tolerance when people start saying it’s time for a revolution, fantasizing about taking violent action against our own government. Sure, it’s just internet bravado, but it’s still dangerous and wrong. We have the freedom and the power to change things. There’s no cause for violence.
The Republicans have to work extra hard to screw up so Democrats are elected.
However, lately, with our leadership that has not been a problem.
