The direct costs go up dramatically after you bankrupt all the farmers and drive them out of business. Hard to survive w/o farmers.

Okay, you agree with him on immigration. I don’t like the current immigration policies either and I’d pointed out that it would be a really good idea to approach this problem from another angle, by cutting off government funding and completing welfare reform for real. Welfare is a disaster and now would be the time that we could do it.

I don’t have a problem with immigrants who follow the legal process correctly coming from wherever. What you miss is the free health care and benefits. Would there be as many if it were sink or swim, figuratively speaking? I think the numbers would be vastly different and we’d get people who wanted to work and who wanted to be Americans.

I do disagree with you on Balkanization, but if the government continues to pay people not to work and get free health care then we will get more of it.

But instead we fight an old battle and expect different results.

Amnesty fails. Border enforcement does too. Even if the President would pursue capture aggressively, a president cannot make the courts follow the law and the states will continue to bend over backwards to give benefits to illegals if they are available to US citizens.

I find Buchanan abhorrent on Israel and I am not the only conservative who sees him that way.

As for your last comment about level playing field, shouldn’t the focus be how much businesses are taxed in the US and what unreasonable laws and restraints are placed on them? The EU, China and Russia will continue to trade with each other and some may or may not trade with North Korea and/or Iran. This is not the same environment in which containment could work. How does the US stop France from trade with a rogue regime, other than to call up Sarkozy and arrange for a meeting?

I don’t believe that government creates a level playing field, even when it wants to.

Yep you are dead on about the difference in the news media of today and the Reagan era. Even Rush notice in 2000 and made mention of how the news media has given up any appearance of objectivity.

When you have Tim Russert, and other Journalists meeting with Kerry senior campaign staff to coordinate coverage. You have CBS Producers coaching Kerry thru multiple takes to get a good sound bite for the evening new, and Rathergate, you NO longer have an “objective” media.

Way past time Conservatives quit taking their political foes propaganda seriously. This is the logical outcome of the change in teaching at the J Schools that started in the late 1980s. There is a thing called "Advocacy Journalism" which says "Journalists" should be public advocates for "the public good". Of course, the obvious problem anyone with a brain could see was that they define "public good' as "anything that validates my personal political opinions". All anyone need to is read the raw story on the wire compared to how it comes out after rewrite to see it. Quotes are selectively edited, or omitted to give a false spin to the story. Who get's quotes is a highly selective process where the quote chossen usual has to do with political spin rather then quality of the story. Forget getting anything put in context. Also forget getting the OTHER side given a chance to rebut the spin. Anyone who things this is the same "News" media that we have always had is simply not paying attention.

No, you are not. I've almost come to think that there is an anti-semitic gene. There simply is no good reason for it.

Your ability to continually ignore truths, stats, and anything that does not support your ongoing agenda for the invasion is truly mind blowing.
I think I have had enough of trying to convince you.
As so many others are, you are totally brainwashed on this issue.

Rodguy, if the government cut the red tape and taxes, people are smart and innovative when they get the rewards, they will solve a problem so much better than the government can.

Thanks, Bahbah!

It’s good to hear different opinions, but we really have to understand why when Buchanan’s role in the GOP sank, it was a good thing.

I see no discernable difference today

Really? Give me comparable episodes from the 1970s to 1996 of the following. Jason Blair? Rathergate? Newspaper manufactured Frauds about Abu Graibe and the Downing Street memo? AP stringers in Iraq arrested helping Insurgency build bombs? Faked photos used by Reuters and AP from Israel-Leabanon war? CBS and NBS "Journalists" meeting with senior Kerry staffers to coordinate how something would be covered? Fraudulent reporting about "the Military is bogged down and cut of in Iraq in 2003"? The utterly made up coverage about Fritzmu "23 indictments reaching into the highest levels of the White House"? etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. This is not your era's new media. Anyone who cannot see it is simply refusing to look at the facts.

My agenda is speaking up for the small businessman who you vilify daily on this board. That is my only agenda, period. Calling them slave owners etc is pathetic.

I never follow the groupthink when it is wrong. Ever!

Bill Kristol, who can be great (when he’s not an idiot) was musing about what in the heck are we even talking about Bloomberg.

Good question.

Exactly!! Most people can't even spell asymmetrical much less gather the meaning of the word. This is a war in which the true nature is not reported in the msm and our leaders have been demagogued so much for political purposes that the fact that we have a brillinat strategist like Gen.Petraeus who has devised a strategy that will and is working is mind blowing.

I salute everyone involved and support the troops and their impending victory.

Any one who tries to put a time line on troop removal of what we are doing in Iraq is a true traitor in every meaning of the word.

Please note that Professor Bray’s “comprehensive” application of free market, capitalist principles encompasses only the free flow of Latino peasants across our sovereign borders.

You say Hillary will take the nomination easily.

I’m inclined to agree ... unless:

The far left turns even more against her,

The corruption charges become so blatant that they can’t be ignored even by Tim, Katie, the NYT, etal. (did you see the video linked on Lucianne?) looked like a REAL episode of the Sopranos.

or,

The dems decide her negatives will prevent her from winning...which they probably won’t because they are all, ‘what negatives?”

I've become more convinced that the pro-amnesty business lobby isn't necessarily pushing for legalized status per se. After all, why would they need/want legal workers who will cost exactly the same (and have the ability to sue over workplace violations, etc) as the previously employed citizens they replaced?

Even legalized workers will work for less than most Americans. And it keeps the lower end of the wage scale depressed. Many of the major businesses are looking for cheaper sources of white collar labor. The current Senate bill doubles the current H1B visa numbers from 65,000 to 115,000 and then to 180,000. And the guest worker program adds another 200,000 jobs a year. So I think business does want this source of cheap, taxpayer subsidized labor.

Rather, I think the driver is all about grandfathering-in civil lawsuit protections. These billion $ class-action lawsuits are just beginning to work their way through the system. That's why NO bill is much better than any bill for plaintiffs (ie US citizens). If the business lobby had their druthers, the amnesty bill would forgo amnesty/registration altogether, and focus purely on legal protection.

Grsssroots organizations are springing up all over the country to challenge the presence of these huge numbers of illegals. Oklahoma has passed some very tough legislation. The best way to counter this opposition is to legalize the status of everyone here, which undermines most of these laws and opposition. And then there is the matter of enforcement, which no one believes will happen to any great extent, especially for small businesses.
