AGUAS CALIENTES, Peru -- Actress Cameron Diaz appears to have committed a major fashion faux pas in Peru. The voice of Princess Fiona in the animated "Shrek" films may have inadvertently offended Peruvians who suffered decades of violence from a Maoist guerrilla insurgency by touring here Friday with a bag emblazoned with one of Mao Zedong's favorite political slogans.
While explored the Inca city of Machu Picchu high in Peru's Andes, Diaz wore over her shoulder an olive green messenger bag emblazoned with a red star and the words "Serve the People" printed in Chinese on the flap, perhaps Chinese Communist leader Mao's most famous political slogan.

The Nag with the Bag is a Hag.
BUMP!
It's a cookbook!!
It wasn’t a “fashion faux pas”. It was an inconsiderate act of political oppression.
If she had worn a KKK emblazened bag with some white supremacist slogans, it would’ve been a similar “faux pas”.
Her politics suck. Communism kills. Any questions.
The Joker is a stupid twat.
Maybe, but do you expect her to a) read Chinese, and B) know the significance of a seemingly innocuous slogan?
Doesn't sound much different to "Protect and Serve" which is plastered all over police cars across America.
In a similar vein, I once stood in line at Airport security behind some Eastern Europeans who had nice new Western Style hand luggage with wheels and telescopic handles that was obviously made in Eastern Europe, judging by the quality. They were no doubt totally oblivious to the significance of the Brand Name of the luggage which was written in English, presumably to look "chic"
I made sure I went through the other line from them, I didn't want to see what was going to happen when they put their shiny new bags through the X-ray machine withe the label facing up saying "SMUGGLER"......
Hollywood actors are generally too ignorant and stupid to to roam at large without caretakers.
Not to defend her, but we should consider that she does not know who Mao was — and what he did.
She’s too stupid to be left out alone. I recall during the last presidential election when she was campaigning for Kerry she said if Bush is elected he’d get laws passed allowing rape.

Serve the People and the bag also had the red star of the Communists. She isn’t so young she wouldn’t have known that!
This reminds me of how Mrs. Bat and I almost continually laugh our butts off on our trips to Honolulu....the Japanese turistas get off the plane and quickly don any "Logo" t-shirt they can find to look Americanese.
I swear, I could sell 100 "Tokyo and Osaka Both Suck Bigtime" each and every day at the airport, if I were a little better at graphic design.
Ya, Like Bush is sooo stupid you know, like he is so un -worldly. He is like a war monger that kills so many people like, Peace and Mao rules. Like Bush should study Mao and the peace he brought to China. sarc off... what an IDIOT
Reminds me of this: During the election chaos of 2000, I heard a young one say that it was imperative Al Gore be declared a winner because her teacher told her class that if elected George Bush was going to fire all post office employees. Her dad was an employee.
Dear Peru,
Cameron Diaz is as dumb as a box of rocks, so don’t take it personally.
“the Japanese turistas get off the plane and quickly don any “Logo” t-shirt they can find to look Americanese.”
She might not even read Chinese.
I see young people with shirts and such in red with a hammer and sickle occaisionally, also Che stuff. Some of them I guess are communists and socialists, but many just are totally uneducated, thanks to our public school system that does not pass judgement on such regimes.
The red star would be a flag to me not to wear it, and my homeschooled kids would know. But most young people today know the ecology flag before they know the Chinese star.

I've seen a lot worse, and you know they are clueless as to the meaning.
...am I supposed to be shocked by this? Seriously...
Of course an American millionaire is going to support Communism. :D
Several black kids at my sons' school sincerely thought they'd be put back into slavery if Bush won.
MTV’s ROCKTHEVOTE.COM had a video during the 2004 election that told young black students that they’d be drafted for war if George Bush won.
Check out “Trippin’ “ on Wuzzadem - hits the nail on the head.

I wonder if Cameron Diaz even knows who Mao is or how many skulls he crushed underfoot.
HEY,
Cameron
‘GOD BLESS AMERICA’
has a nice catchy ring to it....
i’d show you love your country as well...find a seamstress
shock your friends..
SHOW YOUR PRIDE AND LOVE FOR THIS, THE GREATEST NATION ON EARTH!
..GIT ER DONE...
Another Hollywood dimwit.
She is not a dimwit. She bought a purse that was probably made in China. She had no malice. Why are you sticking up with the PC crowd? If you are for PC than why are you on FREE REPUBLIC?
Shes too stupid to be left out alone. I recall during the last presidential election when she was campaigning for Kerry she said if Bush is elected hed get laws passed allowing rape.

Tough to defend that level of ignorance. I mean really, that level of intelligence is usually found in open fields dining on grass. Occasionally they get milked...
Yikes, seriously, if they are that stupid, how will they even know they are enslaved again? It's not like they can tell right now...

Political Advice from Cameron Diaz
Via Drudge, who also brought us the John Kerry tan story:
On Oprah’s Wednesday ‘voting party’ show featuring important celebrities like P. Diddy (Vote or Die!), Drew Barrymore and Christina Aguilera, svelte suffragette Cameron Diaz took to shock tactics to get the female vote out.
After a discussion on lynching and the vote with Oprah, Diaz spoke of the dire consequences for women if they sit out this election:
Ms. DIAZ: We have a voice now, and we’re not using it, and women have so much to lose. I mean, we could lose the right to our bodies. We could lo—if you think that rape should be legal, then don’t vote. But if you think that you have a right to your body, and you have a right to say what happens to you and fight off that danger of losing that, then you should vote, and those are the...
WINFREY: It’s your voice.
Ms. DIAZ: It’s your voice. It’s your voice, that’s your right.
OK, but you still exagerated her position as most liberals do. You said that if women don’t vote for Bush than they are making Rape legal. She said, “If you don’t vote, than rape could be made legal.” Why did you lie?
Actually I am not the original poster—I just located the Diaz quote that was (probably) being alluded to....
Does ANYONE really ever expect ANYTHING but faux pas, social blunders and stupidity from these Hollywood assholes?
I mean really?
The Diaz comment made the inference that rape would be made legal IF you did not vote against GWB. In the context of the whole episode, their positions were very clear.
There was a bit of press coverage of that Oprah episode at the time and much discussion on Free Republic. It was a leftist kaffeeklatch on par with The View. Those women should have been embarrassed to speak their crap in public, but they believed themselves to be very eloquent.
PC crowd? Have you read many of the responses to this thread?
I said that, and that is the clear implication of this ditz’ remarks,
Evidently, in Peru at least, it is not considered cool to express sympathy for the nation’s murderous enemies.
Yet, she's quite vocal in her political opinions...
She needs to spend a year in her ancestral homeland of Cuba, then she’ll be singing a whole different tune.
