Over-the-counter weight loss drug available now

A widely publicized non-prescription diet drug named alli, which is believed to cause weight loss by blocking fat absorption, finally hit the drugstores nationwide this weekend, according to an announcement made June 12 by GlaxoSmithKline, the marketer of the diet drug.

Alli, made by Roche of 60 mg orlistat, the active chemical that has been used for years for a prescription version known as xenical, obtained FDA approval in the February of 2007 for marketing in the United States as an over-the counter weight loss drug .

The drug is indicated for those who are overweight, but not obese adults age 18 or older. Those who are obese are advised to consult with their physicians and xenical, which contains a higher dose of orlistat, 120 mg per capsule, may be the option for them to use to help them lose weight.

Alli is no wonder drug, Glaxo has suggested and consumers should not expect to lose lots of weight overnight. In addition, the drug needs to be used together with a low calorie, low fat diet and the wannabe successful losers need also to do physical exercise.

The drug can help lose 50 percent more weight when a dieter follows a weight loss program including use of a low calorie, low fat diet and exercise, designed by the drug marketer. If one could lose 10 pounds in a course of four or six months following a low calorie, low fat diet and doing required physical exercise, he could lose 5 extra pounds when he also uses alli.

These side effects can be more significant among those who do not stick to a low fat diet. Because of this, Glaxo recommends patients use dark underwear.

It sounds like antibuse for fat people.

The only sure fire method is this, burn more calories than you consume... A healthy diet and exercise. The doctors should tell about 99% of these fat people to put down the junk, and get their asses off the couch.

MAD TV had a bit on some replacement for cooking oil that had similar effects. The advertising phrase they kept using was, “10% less anal leakage!”

If I got up off me a$$ I couldn't be on the internet desperately trying to find a cure for my obesity. I keep eating and searching, it's an endless merry-go-round.

Actually, I think it's restoring the older, literal meaning!

Some of obesity comes down to genetics but most is lifestyle. In 1960 the average American adult weighed 25 pounds less than they do today. Our genes are the same. Its the lifestyle thats different. We drive more places. We walk less and exercise less. We eat larger portions and more terrible food. Whats scary is the number of obese children you see now. You never used to see anywhere near as many. The consequence of them sitting in front of the TV playing playstation for hours instead of playing sports with their friends in the neighborhood like we used to.

The Romans countered gluttony with vomitoriums, now we sell an OTC drug that forces the glutton to leak it out of his or her butt? Have I got it right?

FWIW I was just at BJ's Wholesale (same isle as the calcium supplement my wife sent me for) and it looked like they were almost sold out of the stuff. There were mostly empty cardboard trays with a few packs remaining.

Is there any doubt that we're a civilization in rapid decline?

(I might carefully examine seating surfaces in public places before sitting down these days. I don't know what to do in a darkened movie theatre. Carry your own flashlight?)

I remember when the "Wow" chips came out, Olean could lead to "leakage" problems. Who knew that it was great advertising for teens? - My friends ate many a bag to elicit the end result, for fun.

BTW haven't seen those guys in years...
