From prior thread on this story:

-snip-

Under city rules, the vehicle assigned to Delgadillo cannot be driven by a family member for personal reasons.

Earlier this week, The Times reported that two sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals, said Delgadillo occasionally has allowed his wife to use the GMC Yukon.

Another source close to the city attorney told of being informed that the Yukon had been backed into a structure in the parking garage of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center when Delgadillo's wife, Michelle, was there for a medical appointment.

-snip-

Later that day, Delgadillo acknowledged in response to inquiries from reporters that his own wife had been ticketed for failing to obey a turn-only sign while driving her personal car with a suspended license in 2005.

Department of Motor Vehicle records show that Michelle Delgadillo's license had been suspended for nearly two years for failure to provide proof of insurance after an accident.

Thanks for the link and the excerpts from the other source, Ken H.

Strange, I searched for anything resembling this story and didn't find anything.

Well, there was never a DMV accident report filed on that.....did any of the reporters mention that?

Clearly over the monetary amount required by law, even on private property.

actually, all you have to do is call the office in Sacramento with a valid insurance policy and it lifts the restriction on your license....

of course, there was no accident report filed....so that would raise red flags.

All your L.A. heroes are DEAD!

Parker and Gates are no longer the Chiefs of Police. Yorty is no longer Mayor. Chick Hearn is no longer calling plays for the Lakers. Lasorda is no longer managing the Dodgers. The 5 Freeway is now the speed limit. The 405 has become the "4 or 5."

Oh, and BTW, Bob Hope was a Palm Springs guy. So was Frank Sinatra.

Truce?

Apologize first. There are many fine conservatives living in Los Angeles, a city populated by over 9 million people.

What you said earlier up thread was out of sync, if not offensive.

That is not true. Bob Hope lived in Toluca Lake, due North of Hollywood, a bit East of Studio City since 1937. He spent some time in Palm Springs, but Toluca Lake was his place of residence, it was his home. Toluca Lake is where he passed away in 2003.

There has to be more to it than this, or else there's not a lot to it.

The initial charge is failure to show proof of insurance after an accident -- not, at least that the article reveals, a lack of insurance. I'm pretty crappy at keeping up with paperwork, so I've been hit with the no proof of insurance charge a couple times, and all I needed was a card or an affidavit to show that I had insurance in force at the time of the ticket. Take that to court -- to the clerk, no need to wait for the court date -- and the fine is usually waived. Georgia now has a statewide database so they can verify insurance status whether I have the card or not.

If she missed a court date, the suspension would be automatic. It could be appealed, and she might have been eligible for a "work permit" -- permission to drive two and from work, and only to and from work, while riding out the suspension. I've done that, too. It's not unreasonable to believe that she missed a notice or two. It's all paperwork stuff, nothing particularly damning.

Why she was driving a city vehicle at all, on the other hand, that's gonna be a little harder to explain away.

What I said is true. Sometimes the truth hurts. But we do nobody any favors by ignoring the truth. The truth is that LA is a liberal cesspool. The people of Los Angeles have voted in the clowns who turned that city from a great city into a third world toxic wasteland.

Until the people of the City of Los Angeles stop and realize what they have done to their once great city, then they deserve the government they asked for and they deserve the government they got.

No apologies for the truth.

Most, if not all, government issued vehicles are for use by government employees only and are not for any kind of personal use.

That varies. Employees with "take-home" government vehicles are usually allowed to, say, stop for groceries on the way home. It's common-sensical and cost-effective for some city employees to have city vehicles waiting in the driveway, and it would be silly and bad for morale to niggle over a few fractions of a mile to run errands on the way to or from work.

Letting other family members drive a city vehicle, on the other hand, that's another matter, and much more difficult, if not impossible, to justify. Unless it was explicitly allowed (a government, like any other employer, could make a "company car" an employment perq).

If condemning all conservatives living and working in Los Angeles, California is the penultimate of your hope then you have indeed slipped over into the hopeless category. For most there is always hope. Pity can be your reward then, freely given.

Here's another conservative who lives in Los Angeles. It is unlikely you will recognize him, however.
